T1 Essences in Nightingale: Sources, Farming, and Uses

By
Craig Robinson

As part of Nightingale’s progression system, players will acquire various Essence tiers. From the measly Essence Dust all the way up to Tiers 1, 2 and 3 Essences, these materials will serve as crafting resources and as a currency to purchase appropriate recipes. When you enter your first Major realm card and visit locations as part of your quests, you’re tasked with acquiring T1 Essence from Octavia, and you’ll need lots of it to upgrade your tools for further gathering, gear score upgrades, key recipe unlocks for base parts and more. So, with the amount of T1 Essence required in the early-mid game, this guide aims to assist with farming strategies to get T1 Essence in Nightingale.

How to Get T1 Essence in Nightingale: Sources

If you’re wondering how to get T1 Essence in Nightingale, you’ll need to know that only a certain combination of realms produce T1 Essence. The Antiquarian, Astrolabe, and Provisioner Major Realm Cards are the three Major Cards that bring you to Tier 1 resource areas.

Completing occupations, Bastilles and other events on the map will award a range of T1 Essences in Nightingale.

When you’re in any of these realms, you will find POIs and resources scaled to that difficulty of tier. No matter what you do, you will find T1 Essence is the main currency you get from completing POIs, quests, and even from harvesting and killing enemies occasionally.

Best Ways to Farm T1 Essence in Nightingale

We recommend completing the Fae Tower first to farm T1 Essence in Nightingale efficiently. Fae Towers have at least two combat objectives, alongside another random event in the middle level. Each of these objectives awards T1 essence, and fighting mobs can sometimes drop one or two every now and then. You can get the Fae Chest at the top of the tower, bagging you some nice rewards, with some T1 Essence awarded for completing it.

In addition, you can access that realm’s Minor Card machine while at the top of the Tower. We highly recommend applying a Treasure Card to the machine. Doing so enables the player to get more Essence drops while in the world. Applying it early into a Realm increases your overall T1 farming efficiency while you gather and complete the other remaining tasks that we mention below. You’ll likely see the benefits of applying one with all the Occupations and quests on the map still active.

With the Fae Tower out of the way, the best method to gather T1 Essence is by going towards objectives and completing them. You will find a range of Bastille of Intellect, Bastille of Insights, and Agility tests. These will be your main source of T1 Essence. You can also find quick battles in Occupation sites, where you must defeat a wave or two of enemies. Loot the Puzzle Cores at the center of these sites, and you’ll grab anywhere between 20-40 T1 Essence per completion.

If you require other activities, watch for any other landmarks dotted around the map. You can find abandoned settlements or other structures with quest-givers too. These can range anywhere from Aid missions to helping to build small settlements for Defense tasks as a group of scientists conduct experiments at a given point. Completing these tends to award the player a Fae Magic Chest, which can contain T1 Essence, among Minor Cards, health potions and other resources.

What Is T1 Essence Used For In Nightingale

As mentioned, T1 Essence is largely used as your main currency through the early-mid game. The biggest requirement you have for the resource is to buy the recipes to improve your base building. The other major requirement for T1 Essence is to upgrade your items. You’ll unlock an Upgrading Bench after completing some of the quests in the early to mid game.

One of the reasons you need T1 Essence is because of the various recipes found in Antiquarian, Astrolabe, and Provisioner Realms.

Recipes can cost anywhere between 15-30 T1 Essence, depending on the project, workstation, weapon recipe, or building prop. Meanwhile, upgrading your weapons at this stage of the game costs around 40 T1 Essence. You’ll largely be spending your Essence on upgrades, as you will need to improve your Gear Score in the early game. Upgrading your tools and your armor will likely cost you around 300 T1 Essence on top of the other recipes you need. You’ll need to upgrade the Gear Score to progress your Abeyance realm dungeon quests to get higher tier Major cards, and progress through the game.

With that said, you now know everything you need to know about T1 Essence in Nightingale. Good luck taking the tips from the guide and applying them to your farms!

Nightingale is a PvE open-world survival crafting game with a few unique features for the genre. First among these is the Realm Card system, whereby players can discover and craft Major or Minor realm cards to influence aspects of procedurally generated worlds or character attributes respectively. You may find yourself in a more forgiving or hostile world depending on the Major cards you use, but the Minor cards can give you an edge against foes with boosts to damage, health, stamina, or other aspects of survival. The game is set in the Victorian era and has more than a little influence from Steampunk fiction, so if that’s anything like your thing, you’ll love this world!
