Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong

How Do Endings Work?

By
Ben Chard

Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong is a choice-based game and naturally, your choices will have impact the way the game ends. Here you can find out more about how the game determines outcomes and endings. Naturally, if you’ve wandered here by mistake, leave now or be prepared to be spoiled on the mechanics behind the endings and outcomes.

How do the Endings work?

There are three areas where Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong has Ending outcomes and you can achieve multiple of these outcomes in one playthrough. As such, many of the game’s Trophy’s/Achievements are tied behind obtaining these outcomes so you’ll need to play through the game several times to achieve it.

Does every Ending have an Achievement or Trophy?

The first questions that many people probably have when playing Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong are most likely centered around the Achievement/Trophy list and as expected, Endings and Outcomes play a large part in that.

The answer to that question is a simple one, no. There are a lot of outcomes in the game, but outside of the general Achievement/Trophy for beating the game, eight Outcomes will grant you one (three for Emem and Leysha, two for Galeb) along with two extra Achievements/Trophies based on whether all the characters are alive or dead by the end of the game.

This essentially means that only the Outcomes and Endings relating to the Main Characters will reward you with Achievements/Trophies, none of the Outcomes related to Secondary Characters or the Fate of Boston will grant you one, but you’ll most likely achieve some of these Outcomes while going for the Main Character Endings.

Is there a New Game+?

Unfortunately, as of launch, there is no New Game+ in Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong. This means that you’ll have to play through the game several times to get all of the Achievements/Trophies and see everything the game has to offer.

There is, however, a Level Select, that you can make use of to replay scenes. It’s important to note that your character stats won’t carry over, it will be reset to the state when you first accessed that Scene, but it will allow you to replay scenes with the most critical trigger points that will make those Endings quicker to achieve without playing throughout the entire game.

Character-based Endings

As you may expect, the Main Characters themselves, that being Emem, Galeb, and Leysha, all have different outcomes for their journey. For example, they can all be dead by the end of the adventure, or they can all survive, but with different goals achieved.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong features many Secondary Characters and they too, all have their own outcomes in the story. Berel Underwood, Xu Feng, Richard Dunham, and Kurt are all considered Secondary Characters and have outcomes in the story based on your choices throughout the game.

The Fate of Boston Endings

There are many organizations in Boston and at the centerpiece of the story found in Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong. Like the above, how you select your choices throughout the story will impact the state of each come the end of the game.
