Boss: Rom, the Vacuous Spider

Rom is a pretty harmless enemy on his own, but for most of the fight you’ll be dealing with his children that are dangerous and come in large groups. I suggest you upgrade and equip the Tonitrus weapon you found in Hypergean Gaol, as Rom is weak to Lightning damage, and aim for his sides rather than his tough head.

Phase 1

At the beginning of the fight Rom will be passive and will just sit there until you attack, but once you do he will summon a group children. Since Rom is so passive in Phase 1 you can go ahead and focus on taking out the spiders, by hitting them from the sides or behind, but be careful of their jump attack that can easily kill you if you are not at full health.

Once all his children are dead you can light up the Tonitrus with L1 and lay into his side until he fully disappears, as he will take damage even during his teleport and you can even interrupt it.

Ignore Rom and focus on his dangerous children first (left). Once they are dead lay into Rom's side with a Lightning weapon to do massive damage (right).

Phase 2

When Rom teleports he will be in Phase 2, with a new set of children around him and a more aggressive AI that casts magic on you. Since focusing on the children will often result in being damaged by Rom, meaning the longer the battle goes the more likely you are to die, it is best to lure away Rom’s children from his body and then rush in for hits on Rom’s sides until he teleports again (entering Phase 3) or dies.

In Phase 2 Rom will summon deadly magic from the sky (left) or the water (right), so make sure that you keep mobile or close to Rom to avoid his magic.

List of the Roms’s attacks in Phase 2:

  • Magic Blast: Raises his tail and unleash a heavy damage blast of icy wind around himself
  • Thrash Combo: Flails his head and body to do moderate damage around himself
  • Meteor Barrage: Raises his head and summon heavy damage icicles that rain down from the sky
  • Rising Meteors: Rolls onto his back and curl in a ball, summoning heavy damage icicles from the water

Drop: 22,600 Blood Echoes and a Kin Coldblood (12)
