Key Attacks

Fireball : The Azure Rathalos pulls its head back, flaming at the jaw, and then launches either a single fireball straight at the hunter, or a volley of three - one forward, one to the left 45 degrees and another to the right at 45 degrees. the Azure Rathalos may use this attack both on the ground and in the air.

Fireball Launch : The Azure Rathalos blasts a fireball straight forward and launches himself back, up into the air.

Venom Claw : From the air the Azure Rathalos may attempt to ‘scratch’ the hunter with its claws, clearly signalled by it putting its claws down, towards the hunter and flying slightly higher before coming in for an attack.

Air Charge : The Azure Rathalos ‘slithers’ towards the hunter while in the air.

Charge : The Azure Rathalos may simply charge forward, making its entire body a weapon.

Swoop : The Azure Rathalos flies high, looking almost as if it’s left the arena, but will then circle the arena before swooping down to attack a hunter.

Recommended Strategy

When tackling an Azure Rathalos you’re essentially fighting a Rathian with an expanded moveset, as such the same basic principles apply - stay close to its legs, but not under its body.

The Azure Rathalos will take to the skies with greater frequency, however, and is significantly more dangerous when up there - it’s recommended that as well as constantly moving, you make some space between yourself and the Azure Ratholos when it is flying in the sky in order to react to its expanded moveset.

The Azure Rathalos doesn’t require a brand new strategy compared to the regular version; he simply emphasises the need to create some space when he flies into the air - his extra poisonous talon attacks can be a particular pain if you let him get close.
