Description

The Silver Rathalos is a rare sub-species of Rathalos encountered during G-Rank quests. This version of Rathalos spends more time in the air and attacks more frequently, making it difficult for grounded hunters to get the upper hand.

Key Attacks

Fireball : The Silver Rathalos pulls its head back, flaming at the jaw, and then launches either a single fireball straight at the hunter, or a volley of three - one forward, one to the left 45 degrees and another to the right at 45 degrees. The Silver Rathalos may use this attack both on the ground and in the air.

Fireball Launch : The Silver Rathalos blasts a fireball straight forward and launches himself back, up into the air.

Venom Claw : From the air the Silver Rathalos may attempt to ‘scratch’ the hunter with its claws, clearly signalled by it putting its claws down, towards the hunter and flying slightly higher before coming in for an attack.

Air Charge : The Silver Rathalos ‘slithers’ towards the hunter while in the air.

Charge : The Silver Rathalos may simply charge forward, making its entire body a weapon.

Swoop : The Silver Rathalos flies high, looking almost as if it’s left the arena, but will then circle the arena before swooping down to attack a hunter.

Recommended Strategy

When tackling a Silver Rathalos you’re essentially fighting a Rathian with an expanded moveset, as such the same basic principles apply - stay close to its legs, but not under its body.

The Silver Rathalos will take to the skies with greater frequency, however, and is significantly more dangerous when up there - it’s recommended that as well as constantly moving, you make some space between yourself and the Silver Ratholos when it is flying in the sky in order to react to its expanded moveset.

The Silver Rathalos, as with other high rank subspecies, is made incredibly formidable due to its more ferocious attitude, and its stupidly sturdy head. Expect more attacks, more often, and expect them to be chained with greater fluidity.

It’s recommended that you adopt a more hit and run strategy, landing one or two hits and then moving a way aways and don’t get cocky when this Rathalos is fatigued - it doesn’t last long. As with many high rank fights, half the battle is just staying alive - move and block constantly.
