The Black Diablos is a sub-species of Diablos found from High Rank. More precisely, they are female Diablos during mating season and–as their ominous colour warns–especially aggressive and dangerous. A woman in her prime has never been so scary…

Key Attacks

Charge : The Black Diablos lowers its horns and stampedes towards the hunter. Fast and brutal, this attack is only more terrifying when the Black Diablos is enraged.

Body Slam : The Black Diablos hops back and turns side on, notable by the way its head is looking, before slamming its weight forward.

Tail Whip : Black Diablos spins its tail around itself, normally a few times. A typical Wyvern attack, but notably dangerous due to the Diablos’ tail barb.

Tail Slam : The Black Diablos raises its tail and slams it down twice, once to the left and again to the right.

Tunnel : The Black Diablos tunnels underneath the ground and then moves around, underneath a hunter, and then bursts from the ground in an upward motion.

Recommended Strategy

The Black Diablos’ tail can be devestating, and any time you’re near the beast you need to keep an eye on it. The usual 'attack the legs' is a viable tactic, however the Black Diablos uses charge attacks with much greater frequency than a Rathian or Rathalos, and it can be easy to find yourself trampled frequently.

You’re recommended, therefore, to focus on one/two hit then dodge movements, staying roughly under the Black Diablos’ bum, moving with her.

The moment you see Black Diablos start to grunt black smoke she is enraged, and your job is now to run. The Black Diablos is fast enough in her normal state, but in her enraged state she is terrifying! Keep your distance, run around her, and wait for the state to pass.

A fight against a Black Diablos will be long simply due to her resistances and power against things like traps, but play carefully and you should find victory.

The good lady Black Diablos is just an all-round buffed up version of the male beast. Boosted power and boosted speed combine to create a devestating battering ram of raw aggression. Be diligent with dodges and guards, and be especially wary of the creature enraging.

Notes :

  • You can force Black Diablos to lodge its horns into a wall by acting like a matador. Stand with a wall behind you and wait for the Black Diablos to charge. This is a great attack opportunity, and will see the Black Diablos' drop a tear.
  • Meat has no effect on a Diablos - it's a herbivore, believe it or not.
  • A Sonic Bomb can pull a tunnelled Diablos from the ground (this will not work when the Diablos is enraged)
