How to Rename Your Ship in Starfield

By
Shane Williams

Throughout your Starfield journey you’ll get to purchase and customize multiple ships and these act like your own portable base, as you can sleep in it, store all of your equipment, research new items and use it to reach new and exciting planets. You may be looking to give your ship a new name to make it more personal, so this page will navigate you through the necessary steps to finding the option.

You can name your ship to anything you like.

Where to Find The Rename Your Ship Option in Starfield

Your first task in your quest towards giving your ship a personal touch is to progress the story a little until you start coming across ship vendors and the first one you’ll find is in "New Atlantis" iconNew Atlantis which is one of the first cities you’ll visit during the "One Small Step" iconOne Small Step Main Quest. Once you’ve touched down in New Atlantis, speak with the Ship Services Technician who can be found standing near the ramp opposite your ship, then you’ll want to select the “I’d like to view and modify my ships” option.

From here, you’ll want to select the “Ship Builder” option which can be activated by pressing B-Key for those on Keyboard+Mouse, then you’ll want to press C-Key to bring up the “Flight Check”. Now you can see the option to rename your ship by pressing G-Key. You can rename your ship to whatever you think sounds cool and there’s no cost to do it, so you can change it whenever you like. Changing the name of your ship doesn’t affect anything related to the story, so it’s purely an option for those interested in the role-playing element to the game.

Starfield is an action role-playing game from Bethesda Game Studios set in a futuristic interpretation of space exploration and colonization. Earth has long been abandoned, but there are plenty of other planets in different star systems where humans have ventured and settled. You have the freedom to create your own character with a unique background, but the main story will take you through a series of adventures as you uncover more information about mysterious artifacts which create gravitational anomalies. Along the way, you can build and customize your own space ship, establish your own outpost, befriend and romance new companions, and more. As a Bethesda game, you can also expect to see a lot of creative mods which have the potential to change your experience of the base game, or take it in an entirely new direction.
