Starfield Planet Traits Explained: How To Unlock Them

By
Craig Robinson

Planetary traits are a feature for players who want to go around the cosmos and begin to explore and scientifically complete objectives. These are basic objectives that you can learn about planetary traits, whether a planet hosting life or some other planetary activity. Here’s a closer look at how Starfield Planet Traits work, and how to unlock them.

Starfield Planet Traits Discoveries Explained

Every planet has traits that you can unlock with some science or exploration.

To unlock planet traits in Starfield, you will likely need to be on the planet’s surface and use your scanner to look for objectives and things you haven’t discovered.

While on a planet, look for the landing zones with markers titled, “Unexplored” on them. This indicates there are some potential POIs you can visit, which could lead to things to find on your scanner. When you find the correct thing for that area, you will unlock a trait for that planet. This could be some form of a living creature, which tells you how some of the life on that planet functions. Or it could be an important geographical feature. So, for example, if you have an unidentified ecological feature, then you need to look for nature-related objects with your scanner, and look for things without names and scan them.

Alternatively, you can unlock new popular interests by reading about things. We know for a fact that reading classical books based on real-life stories, such as "Oliver Twist" iconOliver Twist, Moby Dick, Ancient Egypt and other classics, can lead to you getting missions to visit Earth for former important sites on the planet. There’s likely more out there, giving you all the more reason to read items in the game for more planetary exploration. You can buy a few of these books from Sinclaire’s Book Store in "Akila City" iconAkila City, for example.

The other suggestion is that you can unlock planet traits in Starfield using the "Astrophysics" iconAstrophysics Starfield Skill. This is a row 3 Science perk, which you can unlock to have small chances to unlock planetary traits when you scan the moons of planets around level 12 if you’re committed to a Science playthrough. The chance increases per rank of the skill, and you can also increase the range of scanning for distant moons too. So, it makes unlocking these traits much easier to do, depending on your luck in getting those traits.

And there you have it, you are now how area how the Starfield planet traits system works!

Starfield is an action role-playing game from Bethesda Game Studios set in a futuristic interpretation of space exploration and colonization. Earth has long been abandoned, but there are plenty of other planets in different star systems where humans have ventured and settled. You have the freedom to create your own character with a unique background, but the main story will take you through a series of adventures as you uncover more information about mysterious artifacts which create gravitational anomalies. Along the way, you can build and customize your own space ship, establish your own outpost, befriend and romance new companions, and more. As a Bethesda game, you can also expect to see a lot of creative mods which have the potential to change your experience of the base game, or take it in an entirely new direction.
