Best Fighter Thralls Conan Exiles (Age of War Chapter 2)

By
Scott Peers

The thrall system in Conan Exiles gives you an opportunity to obtain allies that can help you with both combat encounters and crafting chores. Although almost any thrall can perform either of these tasks, there are some that excel in combat and others that are more suited to crafting. The Age of War (Chapter 2) update brought some changes to the way thralls function, and as a result, the best thralls for both categories changed. On this page, we’ll discuss some of the best thralls for different types of combat, such as the elite "Thugra" iconThugra and "Cannibal Brute" iconCannibal Brute fighters, and show you where they can be found.

Regardless of how powerful you think you are alone, everyone needs a few helpful thralls in Conan Exiles at some point.

How to Choose the Best Thralls

There are four main different types of combat thralls that you’ll be looking for: Fighter, Archer, Performer (aka "Dancer" iconDancer), and Bearer. Fighter thralls will form the core of your attacking force since they often have the highest damage modifiers and the best stats for combat. Having said that, Performers and Bearers are great for taking damage as tanks since they often have the highest capacity for more health. Archers are best used as defensive thralls at your base. They can inflict a lot of damage, but they’re generally weaker than the others.

We’ll discuss a few of our favorite examples below, but first, it’s important to explain why the damage modifier stat is perhaps the most important thing to consider when choosing a combat thrall.

Why Are Damage Modifiers Important?

If you’ve spent any amount of time looking for the best combat thralls in Conan Exiles, you may be wondering why the damage modifier stat is given so much significance, while the rest of the stats including vitality, grit, and strength are sidelined by comparison. The reason for this is that the damage modifier, as you might have guessed, directly relates to the amount of damage that the thrall can inflict per hit.

The damage modifier stats may seem low in their values, with the highest damage modifiers currently coming in at 3.12, but they have a much more significant impact on thrall combat performance than any other stat. The difference between a thrall with a 3.12 damage modifier from one with a 2.23 modifier is substantial, and you’ll notice this whenever you bring them along on your adventures. In short: they’ll kill things more quickly, which is good for everyone.

What About Strength, Agility, Vitality, and Grit Stats?

Although the damage modifier is by far the most impactful base stat for any combat thrall, you shouldn’t completely ignore the other stats which consist of Strength, Agility, Vitality, and Grit. Some thralls will start out with higher stats in each of these categories than others, which will influence how well they perform early on.

The stat that will have the most impact for any new, low-level thrall is arguably Vitality. This is because regardless of how hard a thrall can hit early on, they’ll still be limited by their base stats, especially against tougher enemies. However, if a thrall starts with 30 Vitality, as the "Cimmerian Berserker" iconCimmerian Berserker does, they’ll have much more health than a thrall with 0 Vitality, allowing them to take far more hits before they’re dead.

It should be obvious why this is important, but in the simplest of terms, you want to make sure that your thralls are capable of staying alive while you gradually increase their level and provide them with better gear. The higher the health pool a thrall has, the more likely they are to survive a surprise attack from a tough group of enemies or even an ambush from a boss. The damage modifier becomes obsolete if the thrall can’t survive a few big hits in a row!

Armor, Weapons, Potions, and Levels

As mentioned in the tip above, it’s important to make the most of your thralls by providing them with every possible advantage. The Elixir of Rebirth is a great way of doing this since it can boost base stats for thralls by increasing their health, damage output, and defenses. However, you should also consider crafting some decent armor and weapons for your thralls before you take them to dangerous areas. Not only can this further boost their stats, but it improves their overall effectiveness both in terms of staying alive and inflicting damage.

It’s recommended that you begin to level your thralls in relatively safe areas to avoid being surprised by some of the most difficult enemies. Stick to regions that have enemies that you’re familiar with so that you can anticipate how much damage you can expect your thralls to receive, and you’ll have a better idea of their attack patterns. You can gain a significant amount of XP just by killing low-level enemies early on, with very low risk to your thralls. Once your thralls hit level 10 or so, you can start farming tougher enemies more comfortably.

Best Fighter Thrall Locations

The Fighter thralls will form the bulk of any attacking force, so we’ll include more of these than the others. We’ve listed some of the best based on their damage modifiers, but you’ll have to keep in mind how easy they are to find.

Thugra Thrall Location

Name Damage Modifier Location
"Thugra" iconThugra 3.12 "Thugra's Stand" iconThugra’s Stand - Map Link

The Thugra thrall is among the best with a damage modifier of 3.12. It’s also one of the easiest thralls to obtain early on in the game since it’s located at "Thugra's Stand" iconThugra’s Stand in the central part of the map, as shown in the screenshot below. Thugra is a guaranteed spawn at this location, so you can quickly and easily build an entire force of Thugra thralls. The only potential downside to this thrall is that it starts with relatively low health, around 400, but you can increase this to 3000+ with additional levels, perks, and gear.

(1 of 2) You can find Thugra at Thugra’s Stand, marked here.

Cannibal Brute Thrall Location

Name Damage Modifier Location
"Cannibal Brute" iconCannibal Brute 3.12 "The Summoning Place" iconThe Summoning Place; "Skulker's End" iconSkulker’s End - Map Link

The Cannibal Brute is similar to Thugra in that they’re also a guaranteed spawn, and they also have a damage modifier of 3.12. This makes them big hitters, and their potential to attain 3000+ health is the same as Thugra. You’ll find these at "The Summoning Place" iconThe Summoning Place, located just south of Thugra’s Stand. Another guaranteed spawn location for the Cannibal "Brute" iconBrute is at "Skulker's End" iconSkulker’s End, located in the far southwest of The Exiled Lands. You’ll see both of these locations in the screenshots below.

Cimmerian Berserker Thrall Location

Name Damage Modifier Location
"Cimmerian Berserker" iconCimmerian Berserker 2.24 "Mounds of the Dead" iconMounds of the Dead - Map Link

The Cimmerian Berserker is another guaranteed spawn, but the damage modifier for this thrall is 2.24, so a fairly significant reduction from the Thugra and Cannibal Brute. Still, once leveled and geared this thrall will make a powerful ally, and it has the advantage of spawning with better gear than the other two mentioned above. You can find the Cimmerian Berserker at the "Mounds of the Dead" iconMounds of the Dead in the northwest of The Exiled Lands, as shown in the screenshot below. They can most often be found wandering the waters between the barrows here.

(1 of 2) The Location of the Mounds of the Dead.

Dalinsia Snowhunter Thrall Location

Name Damage Modifier Location
"Dalinsia Snowhunter" iconDalinsia Snowhunter 2.23 "Mounds of the Dead" iconMounds of the Dead - Map Link

You can also find "Dalinsia Snowhunter" iconDalinsia Snowhunter at the Mounds of the Dead, but rather than patrolling the waters beneath the mounds, she can be found walking around the barrows above. Unfortunately, Dalinsia isn’t a guaranteed spawn so you may need to kill some of the unnamed thralls here to force her to spawn. Another potential spawn location for Dalinsia is at "Stargazer's Crest" iconStargazer’s Crest, which is a small camp that can be found just to the northeast of the Mounds of the Dead, as shown in the screenshot below. Dalinsia has a damage modifier of 2.23, so very similar to the Cimmerian Berserker, but she has the capacity for more health once leveled and geared.

Daicas the Sharp, Eri the Ravager, Kisthis Fleshtearer Thrall Locations

Name Damage Modifier Location
"Daicas the Sharp" iconDaicas the Sharp; Eri the Ravager; "Kisthis Fleshtearer" iconKisthis Fleshtearer 2.23 Volcano biome - Map Link

This group of thralls can be found throughout the Volcano biome. They have the potential to spawn at any of the locations here, so you have a good chance of finding at least one on your first run-through. You can kill the unnamed thralls to try and force their spawns if necessary. All of these thralls have a damage modifier of 2.23, and they all start with over 1500 health. The only downside to these thralls is that they’re much more difficult to obtain than the others, primarily because they’re in a hostile region where you’ll need specific gear or consumables to explore without overheating. It can be tough to solo this area, so you’re better off going with a few leveled thralls when you can, or with allies in PvE / PvP worlds.

Best Archer Thrall Locations

Although some of the Fighter thralls mentioned above can be found as Archers, if you’re looking for the best ranged thralls you should consider the options below.

Sorschut Eyegouge / Darfari Archer Locations

Name Damage Modifier Location
Sorschut Eyegouge / Darfari Archers 2.88 Darfari Camps - Map Link

The Sorschut Eyegouge thrall is just one of a number of Darfari archer thralls. These are currently the best in the game, and they can spawn at any location where Darfari enemies dwell. You can check our Exiled Lands map to see the locations for a number of these camps. The Darfari archers all have a 2.88 damage modifier, making them the best archers overall in terms of inflicting damage.

N’Gal the Cannibal Thrall Locations

Name Damage Modifier Location
"N'Gal the Cannibal" iconN’Gal the Cannibal 2.47 "Skulker's End" iconSkulker’s End; Darfari Camps - Map Link

The next best archer thralls are those with Cannibal in the name, such as "N'Gal the Cannibal" iconN’Gal the Cannibal. With a damage modifier of 2.47, they’re not too far behind the Darfari archers, but still significantly higher than those below. The good thing about Cannibal archers is that they’re also the easiest to find. They are found throughout the desert lands in the south and central parts of The Exiled Lands, close to where you first spawn in the game. One of the best places is at Skulker’s End, located in the far southwest of the map.

Markos the Accursed Thrall Locations

Name Damage Modifier Location
"Markos the Accursed" iconMarkos the Accursed 1.92 "Mounds of the Dead" iconMounds of the Dead - Map Link

"Markos the Accursed" iconMarkos the Accursed has one of the higher damage modifiers among archers, and they can also attain a decent amount of health for an archer once leveled and properly geared. The only issue with this one is that they can be extremely difficult to find. The best chance you have is by roaming the Mounds of the Dead and killing all the NPCs there, in the hopes that at least one might spawn. This is not a good option for having multiple versions of a thrall, but they can be a nice addition if you happen to get one.

(1 of 2) The location of the Mounds of the Dead.

Markos, Bane of Beasts Thrall Locations

Name Damage Modifier Location
"Markos, Bane of Beasts" iconMarkos, Bane of Beasts 1.92 Purge Reward; Merchant Trade; "Mounds of the Dead" iconMounds of the Dead - Map Link

An alternative to Markos the Accursed is the more common "Markos, Bane of Beasts" iconMarkos, Bane of Beasts. They have the same damage modifier of 1.92 and a similar amount of health, but you can get them from different sources. You might find one of these thralls at the Mounds of the Dead, but you can also get them as rewards from Purge attacks. However, the most reliable method is by farming "Blood Crystal" iconBlood Crystals, which you can then use to trade with merchants in exchange for specific thralls, with Markos, Bane of Beasts being among them.

If you’re not sure about where to find "Blood" iconBlood "Crystal" iconCrystals, be sure to check our How to Get Blood Crystals in Conan Exiles page.

Beastmaster Teimos Thrall Locations

Name Damage Modifier Location
"Beastmaster Teimos" iconBeastmaster Teimos 1.8 "Buccaneer Bay" iconBuccaneer Bay - Map Link

The "Beastmaster Teimos" iconBeastmaster Teimos thrall has a damage modifier of 1.8, making it the worst damage dealer among all the archers listed here. However, the reason why you still might want to consider this archer is that they have much higher health than the others, making them useful as fodder while still inflicting more damage than most of the alternatives that are not on this list. They can be found in the camps around "Buccaneer Bay" iconBuccaneer Bay, as shown in the screenshot below.

(1 of 2) The location of Buccaneer Bay, in the far east of The Exiled Lands.

Best Performer (Dancer) Thralls

The Performer (aka Dancer) thralls aren’t generally among the best combat thralls in Conan Exiles, but they do provide healing buffs and they can remove corruption, both of which are important to survival in the most hostile environments. As a result, you’ll want to have at least one performer with you most of the time, and we’ve got three of the best listed below, balancing decent health pools with reasonable damage output (for a Performer!).

Ansina Hidden-Daggers Thrall Locations

Name Damage Modifier Location
"Ansina Hidden-Daggers" iconAnsina Hidden-Daggers 2.4 Darfari Camps - Map Link

The "Ansina Hidden-Daggers" iconAnsina Hidden-Daggers thrall is one of the best performers you can find. They have a high damage modifier at 2.4, but they can also achieve a good amount of health, maxing out around 3,000 with good perks and gear. The only downside to this thrall is that they are rare. If you’re lucky, you might find one spawned at one of the many Darfari camps mentioned above, such as The Summoning Place, "Cannibal's Rest" iconCannibal’s Rest, "Riverwatch Camp" iconRiverwatch Camp, and Skulker’s End.

Lianeele Thrall Locations

Name Damage Modifier Location
"Lianeele" iconLianeele 1.6 "Mounds of the Dead" iconMounds of the Dead; Stargazer’s Rest - Map Link

"Lianeele" iconLianeele is another thrall that can achieve a decent amount of health for a performer (roughly 4,000), but their damage modifier is weaker than Ansina’s, coming in at just 1.6. Still, they make a decent buffer with the ability to dance in peacetime, so what’s not to love? You can find them most commonly at the Mounds of the Dead or at Stargazer’s Rest, both of which are shown in screenshots above.

Oyvind Tall-tree Thrall Locations

"Oyvind Tall-tree" iconOyvind Tall-tree is another decent option for a performer, but they have an even lower damage modifier than Lianeele at 1.32, but their health can reach roughly 5,000. The good thing about this thrall is that they’re much easier to find than the other performers. You can find Oyvind at "Coldfish Camp" iconColdfish Camp, "Lian's Watch" iconLian’s Watch, "Meltwater Crag" iconMeltwater Crag, and "New Asagarth" iconNew Asagarth. They can also be obtained as a purge reward if you’re lucky.

(1 of 2) New Asagarth is one of the best places to find a lot of Nordheimer NPCs.

New Asagarth is one of the best places to find a lot of Nordheimer NPCs. (left), You should check every building in New Asagarth when searching for Oyvind. (right)

Best Bearer Thralls

The named bearers are the best tank-like thralls in the game. They can achieve health pools far higher than Fighters, Archers, and Performers, often coming in between 8,000 - 12,000 when properly leveled and geared. The only downside to bearers is that their damage modifiers are extremely low at 0.5. They can still inflict some damage during a fight, but you can’t expect the same numbers that you’ll get from the others.

Named Bearer Locations

Name Damage Modifier Location
Rethrous the Burdened, Narr Goatfoot, Eina the Light, Fairin of the Wild Coast, Hesth Plainswalker, Kathibria Featherstep 0.5 "The Black Galleon" iconThe Black Galleon; "The Den" iconThe Den - Map Link

All of the named bearers listed above share spawn locations. Essentially, wherever you see a regular bearer, there’s a chance for a named bearer to spawn there too. With that said, there are two locations that have the highest density of bearers, with the best chances of finding one of the named ones or killing enough to force one to spawn. These are "The Black Galleon" iconThe Black Galleon and "The Den" iconThe Den, both of which are shown in the screenshots below. Some of the best and most common bearers we’ve found are Rethrous the Burdened, Narr Goatfoot, Eina the Light, Fairin of the Wild Coast, Hesth Plainswalker, and Kathibria Featherstep.

(1 of 5) The Black Galleon is one of the best places to find bearers early on in the game.

The good thing about bearers is that both of the best spawn locations for them are easy to reach early on in the game, and since they don’t hit too hard, they can be defeated relatively easily. Bearers are perfect as damage fodder during Purge sieges, or for when you’re fighting tough groups of enemies and bosses.
