Conan Exiles

Warpaint Buffs and Styles - Conan Exiles

By
Scott Peers

The warpaint system in Conan Exiles has gone through a number of changes since the game first released. It used to be that some warpaints provided buffs to basic attribute stats such as strength, agility, vitality, and grit, but since the 3.0 Age of Sorcery update the buffs have been removed, while the names (such as "Warpaint - Agility" iconWarpaint - Agility) remain. Some warpaints are restricted to DLC packs, while others have been added exclusively as drops on the Isle of Siptah. On this page, we’ll cover all the warpaints that can currently be crafted or found as knowledge recipes, and we’ll also show you exactly where to find warpaints from specific NPCs or Elder Vaults on the Isle of Siptah.

There are plenty of warpaints that you can experiment with to match your outfit in Conan Exiles.

Exiled Lands Craftable Warpaints

There’s a total of 14 Warpaints that can be crafted using a Dyer’s Bench without any DLCs in the base Exiled Lands version of Conan Exiles. Each of these warpaints requires the basic ingredients of "Plant Fiber" iconPlant Fiber and an Inking Brush. The plant fibers can be easily acquired throughout the game world using a sickle to harvest them from most foliage, and the brush can be crafted at the Dyer’s Bench with 3 "Branch" iconBranch, 5 "Fur" iconFur, and 3 Plant Fiber.

The specific dyes for each warpaint can also be crafted at the Dyer’s Bench, and you’ll generally need one or more ingredients that can be harvested from flora and fauna alongside a Water-filled "Glass" iconGlass Flash to make them. You can see which ingredients are required for a specific dye when you select it in the Dyer’s Bench menu.

Dyer’s Bench Warpaint Recipes

In the table below we’ve provided an overview for all the warpaints that can be crafted using the Dyer’s Bench, and which dyes you need to make them. Although the stat affiliation for the strength, agility, vitality, determination, grit, support, and accuracy warpaints are now obsolete, they still come with their own unique designs. You’ll notice that some of the stats mentioned here (name determination and support) no longer exist in the game, indicating that these warpaints are a legacy from a bygone era in the game.

Exiled Lands DLC Knowledge Warpaints

Aside from the default crafted warpaints shown in the table above, there are also a number of unique warpaint packs that come from specific DLCs. These will be added to your Dyer’s Bench recipes once you purchase the associated DLC, but you won’t be able to access them otherwise. We’ve included each pack in the tables below.

Aquilonian Warpaints

The Aquilonian Warpaints can be acquired from the Jewel of the West Pack DLC.

Khitan Warpaints

The Khitan Warpaints can be acquired from the Imperial East DLC.

Pictish Warpaints

The Pictish Warpaints can be acquired from the Savage Frontier DLC.

Yamatai Warpaints

The Yamatai Warpaints can be acquired from the Seekers of the Dawn DLC.

Turan Warpaints

The Turan Warpaints can be acquired from the Treasures of Turan DLC.

Neca Warpaints

The Neca Warpaints can be acquired from the Riddle of Steel DLC.

Derketo Warpaints

The Derketo Warpaints can be acquired from the Debaucheries of Derketo DLC.

Isle of Siptah Warpaints

In contrast to the Exiled Lands warpaints, those associated with the Isle of Siptah can’t be crafted using the Dyer’s Bench. Instead, you need to find the warpaints either as loot drops from specific NPCs, or as loot drops from one of the 14 Elder Vaults that can be found throughout the main island on the Isle of Siptah map. It’s important to note that the warpaints on the Isle of Siptah can’t be learned as knowledge recipes, so you won’t be able to craft them after finding one for the first time. The only way to acquire the same warpaint is by looting it again from an NPC or vault.

The table above provides an overview for all warpaints that can be found on the Isle of Siptah. You’ll notice that only the Accursed, Black Corsair, and Stygian Invader warpaints are acquired from NPCs. We’ve provided the locations for each of these in the screenshots below.

Fin the Rambler - Coastal Camp

"Fin the Rambler" iconFin the Rambler can drop the "Accursed Warpaint" iconAccursed Warpaint. You’ll find him wandering the harbor at a coastal camp near the southern tip of the map.

This is an enclosed space that is hidden by the geology of the area, so you’ll need to explore it thoroughly on foot to find it.

Pools of the Grey Ones Warpaints

The TchoTcho and Thunnha warpaints can only be acquired at the "Pools of the Grey Ones" iconPools of the Grey Ones settlement, in the far southeast of the map. You can get them by placing figurines that can be looted from the enemies within on a pedestal at the center of each pool. After placing the figurine, a group of enemies known as Storm Creatures will spawn. You need to defeat these and then loot them to obtain the warpaint, as shown in the screenshots below.

Elder Vault Warpaints

Finally, you’ll note the 14 Elder Vaults mentioned in the table above, each of which has a warpaint associated with it of the same name. You need to go through each of these dungeons to loot the warpaint, usually from a chest at the end of it. The screenshot below provides an overview of the location of each Elder Vault on the main island in the Isle of Siptah.

How To Remove Warpaints and PermPaint Mod

The warpaints available in both the Exiled Lands and on the Isle of Siptah last up to four hours. After this, they will expire, but they can be removed sooner if you happen to die first. You can also remove warpaints that have been applied before their default expiration by applying another different warpaint, or you can remove them altogether by consuming a "Sloughing Fluid" iconSloughing Fluid potion. This can be crafted at the Dyer’s Bench using one Water-filled "Glass Flask" iconGlass Flask and five "Glowing Essence" iconGlowing Essences.

If you know that you want to keep a specific warpaint permanently, you may want to try using the PermPaint mod. It’s a simple one that does exactly as it suggests: allows you to keep a warpaint forever by removing its expiration timer. You can still switch between warpaints with this mod installed, and you can still use the Sloughing Fluid to remove them if you want.
