Applique and Sticker Effects

As you progress through the main quesltine and rank up in various Lives you’ll come across new materials and recipes that ultimately allow you to create more powerful weapons and Life Tools, which in turn allow you to more easily defeat stronger enemies, gather rarer and more valuable fish, ore, lumber and vegetables, which allows you to progress further in the game and rank up your Lives, leading to even better weapons and Life Tools becoming available… it’s a virtuous gameplay cycle. When crafting these new weapons and Life Tools you’re looking for raw Attack, Magic Attack and Life Ability Scores (Mining, Woodcutting, Smithing, Carpentry, Alchemy, etc.), but it’ll become apparent before long that the skills possessed by weapons and Life Tools are also important… especially for crafting Life Tools, as these can make it easier to create perfect endgame weapon and Life Tools. The raw stats of an item are set in stone, but alas, the skills it possesses are a matter of RNG, and while you can just keep crafting more variants of the weapon or Life Tool until you get what you want, with top-tier gear this becomes prohibitively expensive, even Remaking them with "Redux Stone" iconRedux Stones. Fortunately you have tools that can shift the RNG more in your favor - Stickers and Appliques, and this page will discuss where to find these materials, how to use them and what they do in Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time!

How to Use Appliques and Stickers

To unlock Appliques and Stickers you must rank up crafting Lives like Blacksmith, Carpenter, Tailor and Alchemist and purchase the “Extra Materials” skill node in each of these Lives’ skill trees. After this is unlocked you’ll be able to select the “Extra Mats” option after you opt to craft a weapon, Life Tool, armor or accessory, which will allow you to pick an Applique or Sticker you own, which will be expended when you craft along with any other materials. In exchange, certain skills will have a higher chance of appearing on the newly crafted item. Keep in mind that this puts a thumb on the scale of the RNG, but it doesn’t guarantee you anything - you still might get unwanted skills, and even if you get something you want, it may not have a high roll. Still, for late-game gear that requires rare materials, sacrificing an Applique or Sticker may prove to be a worthwhile investment to ensure better skills on your best gear, and make the most of your remakes.

Speaking of which, if you also pick the “Remake” skill in these crafting Life trees you’ll get the “Remake” option when you use crafting benches, which allows you to recreate existing gear. This doesn’t consume the normal materials, but it does use Redux Crystals, and after crafting up to two new skills will be rolled, and you can select between the existing skills or the new ones, mixing and matching to get exactly what skills you want on your gear. You can also add an Applique or Sticker to Remake attempts to further increase your odds of getting the skills you want.

Finding Appliques and Stickers

You can technically find Appliques and Stickers from a variety of sources: chests, monster drops, from Goddess Statues in Treasure Groves and as from "Dreamy Box" iconDreamy Boxes purchased from "Marco" iconMarco in the Base Camp, just to name a few sources. Simply put, you’ll get a trickle of these materials as you play the game, but if you really want to farm specific skills for endgame gear, you’ll need a more reliable source… at least if you want to accomplish anything in a remotely timely manner.

The solution is to craft your own Appliques and Stickers. Fortunately you can buy recipes for these materials from the same Marco at Base Camp, and while they’ll collectively set you back a fair amount of gold, the real barrier to obtaining these is that you’ll need to level up Marco’s Shop Rating by bringing him various requested items.

Once you’ve obtained these recipes you’ll also need a fairly high Artistry ability score to craft them reliably - Appliques generally require an Artistry score of 180 - 400 and Stickers require 250 - 650. Fortunately aside from a few Appliques ("Hagram" iconHagram’s Applique and Skeleton Applique) the materials required to craft these Appliques and Stickers aren’t that hard to find, making crafting the best way to get a sufficient stock for crafting.
