The Treasure Groves in Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time can certainly live up to their name, especially when it comes to some of the rare rooms. The Aging Altar is one of those rare rooms, where you can plant a weapon, shield or life tool, and dig it up after completing the grove to get an extra skill on it. Of course, it can be a bit confusing on which skills to go for with each type of equipment, although you’ll need to go through a lot of groves to get a third skill on everything. This page will dive into what Aging Altars are, what all of the skills are, as well as which skills are the best ones for each type.

Aged Skills are a third skill you can get on weapons/tools.

What Are Aging Altars

Aging Altars are one of the rare rooms that can show up whenever you plant a "Treasure Grove Sapling" iconTreasure Grove Sapling at your base camp. The icon is that of a greenish statue and upon reaching that, you can plant a weapon, life tool, or shield in the ground to potentially learn a third skill for that piece of equipment. It should be said that the higher tiers of Treasure Groves offer better skills than the lower tiers. Essentially, for the Aging Altar, the skills are split into three sets:

  • Present to Year 300 (0-400)
  • Year 400 to Year 600 (410-700)
  • Year 700 to Year 900 (710-1000)

After planting the item, you can then insert materials to increase the rank that the skill will be. There are three tiers here and the number of points goes up to 1,000, which guarantees that the skill you get will be from the highest tier. Note that you can press L2/LT/ZL to view a list of potential skills for that gear, should you want to see what’s available. Once you’ve planted the item, you will need to defeat the boss at the end of the grove to finish it.

When you return to your base camp after successfully clearing the Treasure Grove, you’ll be able to dig up your item from the statue just to the left of the grove entrance, where it will have learned a third skill. Remember that the skill the item gets is completely random from the tier, so you aren’t guaranteed something and it becomes increasingly difficult the higher years you go to get something you want.

Best Aging Skills

First and foremost, this whole process is involved, and once you get a skill on a weapon via aging, you’d have to do the whole thing again to change it. Thus, it’s a good idea to only get an Aging Skill on a strong weapon, like a True Time item, or ones gotten from a "Mysterious Slate" iconMysterious Slate. With that said, the skill you get is completely random, but there are certain skills that could be considered a lot better than others. The table below provides a good idea which skills you’d want on any given piece of equipment.

Equipment Best Skills
Stick Critical Damage
Sword Critical Damage, Charge Attack Damage, Elemental (if weapon has element)
Greatsword Critical Damage, Charge Attack Damage, Elemental (if weapon has element)
Bow Critical Damage, Charge Attack Damage, Elemental (if weapon has element)

Shield Elemental Resistance
Axe Sweet Spot Damage

Saw Weapon/Tool Crafter
