There are a lot of items to be found in Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, which can then be used to craft items and equipment. To do that, you’ll need materials and as you start crafting more endgame stuff, you’ll require rarer materials, like the Marine Silk. This item is one you won’t really be able to purchase from shops, but will need to actually hunt down the
Marine Thread to craft it yourself. This page will detail the best way to get Marine Thread, so read on to find out where to go.
Marine Thread is a material needed to craft Marine Silk, something needed for late game Tailoring recipes.

Where to Find Marine Thread¶
As you level up your Tailor Life, you will notice that some of the late recipes will start asking for Marine Silk. This elusive item is created using Marine Thread, but it’s not possible to buy this at any normal shop, so you’ll have to hunt it down yourself. The in-game hints push you towards three main ways of acquiring this thread, which are detailed below.
Gathering in Treasure Groves¶
One of the way to obtain Marine Thread is via gathering, or picking it up from select spots. Specifically, you’re looking for the sparkling spots and for this particular item, you’ll need to venture into Treasure Groves. As is the case with anything on the ground to pick up, it’s a bit random and you’ll also have to find the spot that yields the thread. With everything said, it’s best to avoid this and go with the next method.
Cave Star Drops¶
The only enemy in the game that can drop Marine Thread is Cave Stars. These enemies, according to the in-game
Encyclopedia, spawn in The Depths B3, which is the dungeon accessible just north of your base camp in the Present. You shouldn’t need to destroy any of the blockades there, since the Cave Stars are pretty close to where you start on the floor. Once you arrive, go to the room and defeat all of the Cave Stars, then use the Teleportation Gate option on your pad to warp to Ginormosia.
(1 of 4) Cave Stars are the easiest source for Marine Threads, as they drop them.
That brings us to another spot with some Cave Stars, which happens to be in Ginormosia. For this one, you’ll have to venture to Fangshore Isles, located to the northwestern portion of the map. You’ll have to put in a little extra work, though, as you need Fangshore Isles to be at Area Rank 5. Once you have it at that point, there is a beach with some enemies just north of the tower, which will happen to be Cave Stars. Using this knowledge, you can use the Teleportation Gate on the pad to go back and forth between this spot and the Depths to farm the Cave Stars much more easily.
Merchant in Ginormosia¶
Of course, the last way to obtain some Marine Thread is via the wandering merchant in Ginormosia. This isn’t the best option, since you need Cashnuts to purchase them in the first place, but The Don’s wares are completely random. That means you’ll never really know if he’ll have the Marine Thread in stock or not, although it never hurts to check him, since there might be other, rarer, materials for sale.
Crafting Marine Silk¶
It should be noted that the Marine Thread isn’t something that you’ll see drop a lot, since the rate seems to be a little on the lower end. However, you’re going to need a good bit of the silk, as you get into the endgame crafts for the Tailor, especially if you want to get the Hero rank. Note that you’ll need to be a Master in Tailoring to get the recipe for Marine Silk in the first place (pay no mind to any recipes that require it before that point). While you won’t need Buddies to craft the Marine Silk itself, you might want some for the gear that has it as a material.
