FTAC Recon Camo Challenges & Tips for Completing Them

By
Craig Robinson

The FTAC Recon is the first major battle rifle players will mess around with. It’s the awkward bridge between the M4 and the FSS Hurricane that players must level up, and then get challenges for if they want to get on with the Polyatomic grind. The FTAC Recon camo challenges in MW2 is a bit of a hassle, but there are a few tips and tricks that make them much easier to complete.

Here’s a closer look at the FTAC Recon camo challenges in MW2, and how to complete them.

MW2 FTAC Recon Camo Challenges & Tips

The FTAC Recon camo challenges in MW2 is as follows

Challenge Requirement Camo reward
Challenge 1 Get 50 kills with the FTAC Recon Beached
Challenge 2 Get 10 double kills with the FTAC Recon- Torn Scales
Challenge 3 Get 50 kills with a suppressor with the FTAC Recon Desert Scales
Challenge 4 Get 30 kills while crouched with the FTAC Recon Haunting
Gold Challenge Get three kills without dying ten times Gold Camo
Platinum Challenge 25 longshots with the FTAC Recon Platinum Camo
Polyatomic Challenge 25 headshots with the FTAC Recon Polyatomic
Orion Challenge Currently unknown Orion Camo

The first and third challenges are fairly easy to get, as is the fourth challenge. To make this better, we recommend the following attachments when you can unlock them. This is the best FTAC Recon loadout that you can gradually use as you level the weapon and unlock the challenges.

  • Rear Grip: XTEN Grip
  • Barrel: Tempus Trench Pro
  • Muzzle: FTAC Dreadnaught
  • Underbarrel: Merc Foregrip
  • You can use an optic you wish, or go for something else.

Note this weapon has recoil issues for a while, so you will need to get used to rapid tapping and dragging your aim down to compensate for poor recoil.

FTAC Recon Double kill challenge strategies

When it comes to the double kill challenge, this is slightly harder to get thanks to the limited ammo capacity, and the three-shot kills to most body areas. So, we recommend the following techniques to make it easier:

  • 15-round magazine attachment
  • Underbarrel SPW 40MM or Corvus Masterkey.
  • Changing killstreaks to score streak and trying to get to the VTOL jet as fast as possible.

The 15-round magazine is good for those who need to use full auto and drill multiple enemies while being good at controlling recoil. This is good when enemies funnel in certain areas, such as the gates and doorways on Al Bagra, or the vans on Raceway, and any other close-range funnel area of the map. This is very good for hardpoints and headquarters too, and watching entry points.

On the other hand, the SPW is a grenade launcher that is good for getting double kills against enemies on objectives like Hardpoint. Launch your noob tubes into the site, get the hitmarkers and follow them up. You might get a kill or two doing it. If enemies are tagged, your bullets can easily finish them off. Meanwhile, the Corvus mastery key will make it much easier to get hip fire kills in close-quarter areas, such as Farm 18’s main building. You can use these if you have got the M16 to level 13 for the noob tube, or the Kastov 545 at level 18 for the under barrel shotty. Remember, the window for a double kill lasts for a few seconds, so the follow up hits are fairly viable.

The final option is to use the VTOL jet to get you double kills. All you need to do is get a kill with your FTAC Recon at a similar time as your VTOL gets a spray kill. You will get the double kill with your weapon. We did this in one game, and it progressed the double-kill challenge much more quicker. But, it may need further testing to be certain. If you like the idea of this strategy, you need to use UAV, Counter UAV and then VTol, and then play objectives to farm scorestreak, with defence kills also getting you more to make it easier to snowball your killstreaks. You will get around 20 points per kill that your team does on marked and blind targets through the UAV, which is 120 points per killstreak, per team wipe. It will easily get you to VTOL while you sit and sit on the hardpoint and headquarters, while getting a kill or two of your own.

FTAC Recon Gold Camo Challenge and Higher Mastery Level Challenges

Now for those who make it to the FTAC Recon Gold Camo Challenge, you need three weapon kills without dying. You can use whatever strategy you like from the aforementioned challenges. Camp and get hipfire kills. Watch for spawn traps and spray enemies down, or just run around and ADS pre-aim where you suspect enemies will path into your sights.

Those moving onto the FTAC Recon Platinum Camo Challenge, you will need longshots. The best maps to do this on are either the Invasion or Ground War maps and camp building or higher vantage spots to pick enemies off. Note you have to contest snipers with this method that can one-shot you. Alternatively, maps like Hydoplant and Embassy offer decent long-range kill opportunities for battle rifles, such as Embassy’s outside map edges, and the area ruin/rooftop that both overlook B as if you’re playing Hydro plant on domination. You can also watch the main road and get long-shot kills for those on the other end of it. You should also change your loadout and use the Bull Rider 16.5“ Barrel, for its stats and silencer.

Finally, the FTAC Recon Polyatomic Camo Challenge requires headshots. You can either look for the ADS build listed at the start of the guide or use the longshot build. Either way, you’re looking for headshots. Range build players must play more marksman-like and aim for headshots against still targets. Examples include those marksman or sniper players on El Asilo, or Las Almas, and Al Bagra’s typical sniping spots If you struggle with head height crosshair placement, the ADS playstyle can get a close range of full auto rounds and let the recoil drift into their heads. For close range, targets aim for the chest, and the recoil will drift into the head, while you need to aim for the hip level and then the recoil will take you to the head height for mid-range enemies. The second shot will kill when it hits the head. Once again, look for close-range fights, such as guarding site pathways or watching thin points players move around the map to make it easier to get headshots, regardless of playstyle choice.

This concludes the FTAC Recon camo challenges guide. Good luck with the grind and getting your hands on the gold challenges and other goodies.
