MW2 Combat Knife & Riot Shield Camo Challenges & Tips For Completing Them

By
Craig Robinson

The Combat Knife and Riot Shield are one the two melee weapons in the game, and they are a pain to level and complete challenges for. To make it easier on you, we are here to offer Combat Knife and Riot Shield leveling tips, so you can start unlocking the challenges. Once you’re there, we will teach you tips and tricks for completing the MW2 Combat Knife Camo Challenges, as well as the Riot Shield Camo Challenges in MW2.

Here are some tips and tricks for being able to complete the MW2 Riot Shield Camo Challenges.

How to level up the Combat Knife and Riot Shield in MW2

To begin unlocking the Combat Knife camo challenges, you first need to reach level 15 with it. This is a long grind, so we recommend not ramming your head into a wall with it. What you should do is use this in your loadout, and then complete objectives with it out. For example, you can get fast weapon XP by running into dog tags on Kill Confirmed, regardless of if they are allies or enemy dog tags. You can also get Combat Knife by capturing objectives, such as on Hardpoint, Headquarters, Domination, etc. You can also head over to Invasion, and stab the AI that runs around the map. Getting kills is a great method, so feel free to stab those AI, or throw stuns and flashes at your enemies and shank them when you can. Feel free to take the Double Time and Extra Tactical perks if you plan on stabbing enemy combatants in your lobbies.

MW2 Combat Knife Camo Challenges & Riot Shield Camo Challenges

You also get some tips and tricks to help you out with the MW2 Combat Knife Camo Challenges too!

Once you’ve reached level 15 with the Combat Knife and Riot Shield respectively, you will have unlocked the Combat Knife and Riot Shield Camo Challenges.

Challenge Requirement
Challenge 1 Get 50 kills with each weapon respectively
Gold Challenge Get two kills without dying ten times for each weapon
Platinum Challenge Get two kills in ten seconds, ten different times for each weapon
Polyatomic Challenge 20 kills from behind with the Combat Knife, and ten for the Riot Shield
Orion Challenge Currently unknown

To make getting these Combat Knife camo challenges, and the Riot Shield camo challenges easier, we recommend playing Hardpoint, Domination, and Headquarters. These game modes offer more predictable player pathing, spawn traps, and funnel opportunities in games. Playing in hotly contested indoor spaces is also good to, as you can get easy melee kills in places like Farm 18’s middle building, the laundry and kitchen room in Embassy, and other such areas.

We recommend the players take the Bomb Squad and Battle Hardened perks for the first Combat Knife and Riot Shield challenge. These reduce the tactical effect duration and reduce you damage taken by explosives. The result is that you will likely last longer when they get thrown out, offering a better chance of you getting a knife kill. This is especially the case for the Riot Shield, as Semtex onto the Shield is an instant kill.

Moreso, we recommend taking Dead Silence and Trophy System in your Field Upgrade Pro. Dead Silence is good when you have the flank, and can chase enemies down without detection. Trophy System is also a good idea for when you’re playing defensive and want enemies to come to you, without having to deal with the endless flashes or grenades that can ruin your setup.

You can also run Recon Drone if you want. This will let you see where enemies are, regardless of whether they use Cold Blooded. You can then inform you decision-making based on that, and go for any of your base camo or mastery camo challenges with it.

Another tip specifically aimed at Platinum is to play defensively, take the extra lethal perk, and a munition box. Getting your hands back on tactical and throwing them at oncoming enemies is a good idea, that way, you can stun or flash enemies, and get the two knife kills in ten seconds by doing so. It also means you can hide in stupid spots, get flashes, and then bash or stab enemies for your relevant challenge.

Another general strategy is to use a primary weapon to get a UAV. Get the four kills you need for UAV, or three if you opt for the Hardline bonus perk, and then pop it. In that time, you can see where enemies are, and then run to enemy locations and stab them, whether in the back for Polyatomic, or fishing for double kills for Plat. This is a very flexible strategy to approaching all the Combat Knife camo challenges. However, Riot Shield Camo challenges will require Overkill to make this work. Use a sniper or an AR, with your Riot Shield in the other slot.

Lastly, we recommend waiting for Tier 1 to release with Season 1, if you can wait with the Riot Shield camo challenges. Tier 1 releases hardcore playlists, which should make the Riot Shield a one shot kill. At the moment it is a 2 hit kill on core gamemodes, so its significantly harder to master at the time of writing.

The Combat Knife, and Riot Shield camo challenges are certainly a pain to get. These are just the tips were are using to progress through these challenges. If you have any suggestions to making these Combat Knife camo challenges, and Riot Shield camo challenges easier, feel free to let us know in the comments.
