Viper Manor Boss Battle: Lynx

By
Vincent Lau

This is a guide for the Lynx boss fight at Viper Manor in Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition.

You’ll battle Lynx, a mysterious visitor from Porre, upon reaching Viper’s office at the end of Viper Manor.

How to Defeat Lynx at Viper Manor

(1 of 2) Lynx wants Serge for some reason.

Lynx wants Serge for some reason. (left), He’s a Black Innate, so White Elements will deal more damage. But… (right)

As you were warned, Lynx is stronger than Marcy, although he’s still within your ability to defeat. Firstly, we suggest splitting your White Element attacks/spells between all your party members. As you’ll notice, Lynx is a Black Innate, so he’s weak to White.

But he has a dirty trick: after being hit by a White Element, he’ll cast Anti White, temporarily disabling your character from using White Elements. Painful if your character has Revive equipped and somebody else bites the dust!

(1 of 2) When hit with White Elements, Lynx will counter with Anti White.

When hit with White Elements, Lynx will counter with Anti White. (left), This disables the target’s White Elements for a short period. (right)

If hit by any other Element spell, Lynx will cast Imbecile, temporarily reducing the targeted character’s Magic Attack. This will weaken their magical attacks, but at least that character can still freely use their Elements.

Despite his intimidating presence, Lynx isn’t too bad near the start. We suggest taking things nice and easy, building your Elemental Power Level and perhaps changing the Field Effect White or anything other than Black!

(1 of 2) When pushed over the edge, Lynx will use Hell Soul.

When pushed over the edge, Lynx will use Hell Soul. (left), Hell Soul can OHKO a character, but it has poor accuracy. (right)

After Lynx’s HP falls, he’ll begin casting Hell Soul, which has low Hit Rate, but if it lands, it’ll one-hit KO the target and, worse of all, you cannot Revive them.

At this point, quickly unleash your offensive White Element spells/attacks like Serge’s Dash & Slash, Meteorite and Photon Ray. Before the battle, where applicable, place these Elements in the highest Level positions (4 or so) to maximize their damage.

After the Boss Battle

We won’t spoil too much of what happens, because it’s quite epic. After the final dramatic scene, you’ll be presented with a save menu. Obviously, save your game, but besides that…
