A standard magic class, the Dark Mage is mostly self-explanatory. They can use Dark Tomes , however the only dark tome in Fire Emblem: Fates is Nosferatu, meaning you don’t really get much use out of that (or Shadowgift but that’s a different story altogether). So their biggest draw is that they are a pure magic class, like the counterpart to Diviner, and so they are very powerful, but a bit slow and quite frail.
Still, magic is a fairly rare gift in this game and many enemies have absolutely pitiful Resistance, making the Dark Mage incredibly strong just on the fact that it can exploit a common weakness. So you should always pack at least one magic user in your army.
