The undisputed best wand for a Summon Necromancer, as it just provides an absurd number of skill boosts to that build’s most useful skills. While this wand doesn’t have +Skill or +Necromancer Skills, it does have +2 Summoning Skills and +2 Poison and Bone Skills, leaving only Curses out in the cold. As for individual skills, the Arm of King Leoric grants +2 to Raise Skeletal Mage, +2 to Terror, +3 to Raise Skeleton and +3 to Skeleton Mastery. That +5 overall boost to Skeleton Mastery and Raise Skeleton is all this wands needs to earn its spot in a Summon Necromancer hand. It also has +1.25 Mana per level and +10% Cast Rate, which aren’t game-changing, but are nice enough boons to an already impressive weapon.
There is one significant downside, however.. the wand has a 10% chance to cast Bone Prison when you take damage. The wand’s descriptive text says “when struck”, but even traps will trigger this. If it’s a ranged attack, you’re probably fine, as it’ll create a Bone Prison around the distant offender, but when hit in melee… well, your attacker will be near you, and when the Bone Prison forms, it’ll likely trap you near your foe. Probably not the situation you want to find yourself in. Even if it doesn’t force you to cozy up to demons trying to disembowel you, the Bone Prison this wand creates can be a nuisance all by themselves, especially in narrow areas where they’ll do their best to block your way forward. It’s a definite annoyance, but it doesn’t come close to negating the wand’s better properties.
Another mid-tier item, its iLv of 44 ensures it should be able to drop midway through Nightmare difficulty, and that means Nightmare Mephisto is probably your best, earliest foe to farm for it.
