Diablo II: Resurrected

Enigma

By

Details about the Enigma runeword in Diablo 2 Resurrected including what runes it takes to craft Enigma, what the best base armor is for Enigma.

One of the most useful and sought-after runewords in the game, Enigma is essential to several builds, and helpful to many others. The main selling point of Enimga - one that would earn it consideration all on its own - is that it gives access to the Teleportation skill to any character who equips it. Sure, it’s only Lv1 Teleport, so it’s not terribly Mana-efficient, but that’s a trivial consideration compared to the possibilities that open up with Teleport. It’s the best mobility skill in the game, and characters whose success is heavily dependent upon positioning - like Summoner Necromancers and Blessed Hammer Paladins benefit tremendously from Enimga. It’s not essential kit to start the build, but having it does bump the character up a tier when it comes to killing speed and survivability.

If that’s not good enough already, Enimga also blesses its wearer with +2 All SKills, +45% Faster Run/Walk (a little redundant when you can, you know, Teleport), +0.75 Strength per Level, +5% Maximum Life, Damage Reduced by 8% and +1% Magic Find per Character Level. The Max Life and Damage Reduction are clearly useful, and the bonus to Strength allows you to invest less stat points into Strength (assuming you build Enigma in armor that doesn’t require too much Strength) and instead put those points into another stat… like Vitality, which will in turn improve your survivability further. The only real weakness this armor has is a lack of resistances, and in light of all its other merits, that’s easily forgivable.

To craft this runeword, you’ll need a 3-socket suit of armor. To make the most of the armor’s Strength bonus you should seek out something that only has moderate Strength requirements, while also having decent Defense. Mage Plate is a good middle ground, counting as light armor, capable of reaching over 1,000 Defense, and only requiring 55 Strength. With a high enough level, that 55 Strength plus the points you invest into Enigma is enough to equip gear like Herald of Zakarum, War Traveler, Marrowwalk and other moderate-Strength items.

Now for the downside: Enigma is expensive. If you can find the runes to craft this with only a few weeks of dedicated grinding, count yourself lucky. It requires Jah + Ith and Ber, the first and last of which are quite rare and expensive. It’s not the absolute most expensive thing in the game, but it’s up there, and given the potency of this armor, it’s probably where you should invest those first precious high runes.

The mix of +Skills, +Strength/level, +Magic Find/level and Teleport make Enigma one of the best armors in the game.
