How to Play the Udon Shop Minigame

By
Jarrod Garripoli

The Like a Dragon series has always been known for their amazing stories, wacky Substories, and the plethora of minigames that’s always packed into every title. Like A Dragon Ishin also contains plenty of minigames, with some being familiar to those who’ve played other titles, and some of which are new. This page will focus on the Udon Shop minigame.

How to Unlock the Udon Shop Minigame in Like a Dragon: Ishin

You will be able to unlock the Udon Shop minigame as early as Chapter 2. Before doing anything, you will need to rescue the Shinto Priest, which is about the only thing you can do at the beginning of Chapter 2. Once you’ve done that, head on over to Fushimi Ichibangai, the street with all of the shops, and look for the Umai Udon place at the northern end. Head there and eat at the restaurant, choosing anything on the menu, which will establish a bond with the owner.

You’ll have the option to start slow or go all in

After doing that, you will want to go to the shop again, but this time, a Substory will take place, called All in the Hips. Note that you will be taught about the Udon Shop minigame during the Substory, but it isn’t too complicated. Upon clearing the Substory, you will be able to participate in the minigame anytime you want, by speaking to the owner and choosing that option.

How to Complete the Udon Shop Minigame in Like a Dragon: Ishin

The Udon Shop minigame is all about memorization, with there being buttons displayed on the bottom of the screen. You have to memorize the button order given to you, then press those buttons after they disappear. The rope at the bottom of the order screen is your timer, and you need to fulfill the set of orders in each round before the timer runs out. If you fail any of the button presses in a round, you will lose a heart, which is displayed in the upper left corner. Lose all three hearts and you will be done with the minigame.

That’s the basics of the minigame, so let’s get a little more in depth. Your sales will be in the upper right corner of the screen and just below that, you will see something called Noodle Skills. As you successfully complete rounds, this will increase, making the minigame a little more challenging. No matter what happens, the maximum amount of button presses you will need to do in any given round will max at seven. Your reward for completing the minigame is receiving 10% of the sales you achieved, plus you will contribute to the bond with the owner.

(1 of 5) The Chef’s Recommendation will flash in the upper left when it’s available

Of course, you do have a little help with the minigame, in the form of a Chef’s Recommendation. In the upper left corner of the screen, you will see the L1/LB button flashing, so press it to issue the Chef’s Recommendation. This will unify a round of orders to a single type, making it a lot easier to complete that round. This is only available once per shift, unless you fail a round. So, in total, you will have three Chef’s Recommendations available to you throughout the shift, since you basically have three lives in this minigame.

How to Get the Divine Rank in the Udon Shop Minigame in Like a Dragon: Ishin

However, anyone familiar with the Like a Dragon series will know there’s one more thing to do with some of the minigames, which is the Completion List. In order to cross off the Udon Shop minigame from the Completion List, you will need to achieve the Divine Rank at the end of your results. In order to achieve this, you need to make a total of 5 Ryo during a shift. The best way to go about this is to start by choosing the second option (Udon Superstar), which will start you off at 7 Dan (Noodle Skills), so you will be getting more money although it will begin more challenging.

(1 of 2) You can pause the game to study the buttons for a longer period

You can pause the game to study the buttons for a longer period (left), Your rank is determined by how much money you earn (right)

You should begin by using the Chef’s Recommendation right off the bat, then pause the game to see each round after that. Eventually, the timer might deplete too quickly for you to keep up, making you fail a round. From there, start off with the Chef’s Recommendation and keep doing this until you’re completely done. Hopefully, these tips help you in securing that 5 Ryo and the Divine Rank.
