The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Hotfix and Patches

By
Paul McNally

As the Next Gen Update arrived there was no doubt it was a massive improvement on the way we played Vanilla Witcher 3 previously. Mods over time had made a lot of the game’s issues simply go away but the arrival of the Next Gen Update caused some PC-specific issues that were fixed within a few days with a small Hotfix from CDPR.

Somewhat strangely the Hotfix did not change the version number of the game, so if you missed your Steam or GOG client updating your copy of the The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, it would be difficult to tell if it was applied or applied correctly at all, but assuming it has been, the minor patch corrected a few irritations ahead of a larger expected patch in the near future.

The first Witcher 3 Next Gen Update Hotfix has arrived and fixes issues for PC players..

Witcher 3 Hotfix

Borked from the Next Gen Update were the in-game overlays for Steam and GOG which meant, among other things screenshots and FPS counters and the like failed to function if those overlays were usually how you carried those operations out. That’s now been fixed thankfully.

Without too many details CDPR also spoke in its limited patch notes of optimization improvements and we can report that we have seen a definite framerate increase in DX12, especially with RTX turned on.

Stability has also been improved meaning you should see fewer irritating crash boxes - we used to get quite a few while loading but haven’t seen one since so hopefully that has gone away for good too.

CDPR says it is currently investigating other issues so we can expect further changes imminently.
