Dead Island 2

How to Complete the Impressive Aim Challenge

By
Nathan Garvin

As you complete just about any task in Dead Island 2 - looting crates, scrapping weapons, killing zombies, using "Med Kit" iconMed Kits, etc. - your deeds will be tracked via the “Challenges” menu. While most challenges are pure volume, completing relatively simple tasks over and over again over the course of normal gameplay, a few are a bit more esoteric. The Impressive Aim challenge is one such oddity, requiring you to complete a specific task that players would likely not otherwise bother with. Completing this challenge will also earn you the [Donk!] achievement, so completionists will be more than eager to get it out of the way. This page will provide you with tips for completing the “Impressive Aim” challenge in Dead Island 2.

How to Complete the Impressive Aim Challenge in Dead Island 2

The Impressive Aim challenge (Combat Challenges) tasks you with achieving the following:

“Throw a melee weapon and hit a zombie 35+ meters away.”

100 feet, give or take. There are a few things we want for this, including junk weapons to throw, some reliable zombie spawns that are relatively stationary (everything mills about in this game, but some corpses are more active than others), and ideally we won’t have to aggro our targets. Being elevated will also help, what with the fall arc of weapons in this game, and honestly, 35m is pretty close to the spawn-in distance for enemies in this game, so ideal spots aren’t as common as you might think.

Fortunately, there is a good spot and it’s pretty early in the game, so even new players can try to hammer this challenge out before moving on to less obtuse, more progression-linked tasks.

First, make your way to Emma’s house in Bel-Air, then exit out the western doors (the way you entered earlier during the story quest "Bel-Air Brawl" iconBel-Air Brawl), turn west, northwest and climb the gate near the dumpster. Once over the gate and back in zombo central, turn west, go through another, more humble gate and climb some stairs to reach the back/pool area of the first mansion you traveled through at the beginning of the game, during the story quest "Desperately Seeking Emma" iconDesperately Seeking Emma. If you need weapons, turn right (northwest) and go upstairs to ransack the house for some "Pool Cue" iconPool Cues, which as every kid knows are just a little imagination away from being proper javelins.

Once you’re armed (the more javelins the merrier - you can find a third pool cue downstairs, in a room just opposite the pool) head down to the pool, make your way up a short flight of stairs to the west, then turn left (south) and when you find a gate to the right (west) go through it and follow a path down to a tennis court. Clear all the zombies off the tennis court - this is the scene of your triumph, and you don’t need interruption here - then open a door to the west and look downhill to the southwest to spot the gate leading to Beverly Hills.

Down here you can usually find several military zombies shuffling around, and likely you’ll find one gnawing on a corpse near the area transition to Beverly Hills. This gnawer makes a fine target, but pick the one that’s furthest away and wait for it to stop moving, if necessary, then equip your pool cue javelin and aim for the sky - seriously, your reticle will probably need to be in the blue of the sky, just above the palm trees. Also note that you need to be standing BEHIND the door separating the tennis court from the area beyond to gain enough distance - the margins are fairly close on this one. Make sure you’re a few steps behind the door, enough to see the full door and part of the fence to the right, and your reticle is appropriately elevated, as mentioned earlier, and let loose. If you miss, try again, and if you run out of pool cues or alert the zombies, just retreat to Emma’s house, fast travel away, return and try again. The system works, it might just take a few tries!
