Dead Island 2

Dead Island 2 Easter Eggs: Streamers, Deep Silver & King Arthur?

By
Craig Robinson

One of the fun things about games is the plenty of easter eggs you can run around and find in-game. So far, we’ve found several Dead Island 2 easter eggs, poking fun, paying homage, or being silly in certain places. While there are likely hundreds out there, we’re going to list all the ones we know for sure are Dead Island 2 easter eggs, or at least quirky or nice fits in certain places.

Dead Island 2 Easter Eggs

(1 of 2) Plenty of streamer easter eggs in Dead Island 2.

Plenty of streamer easter eggs in Dead Island 2. (left), Clear references to YouTube awards. (right)

Let’s start with some of the more obvious jokes. You can find plenty of streamer easter eggs inside the Goat Pen in Bel-Air. There are awards on the wall for silver, and gold award, similar to the plaques that YouTube send to their accounts that hit certain subscriber milestones. There are also baked-in streaming rooms, gaming rooms and more. You can find the streamer apology on the whiteboard, with the devs laughing at the fake, scripted apologies streamers make when they get into trouble.

Also, the design of the mansions are very interesting as well. GameSpot pointed out on Twitter that there seem to be a few similarities between the Goat Pen, and the David Dobrik’s LA Mansion. There are entertainment nerd places, confectionary, steamer lounges, and other places that make an appearance in the Goat Pen. Could be a coincidence, but there certainly seems like similarities there. You can see the footage of his mansion over on Enes Yilmazer’s YouTube channel.

Homage to their own games

Two Dead Island 2 Easter Eggs exist for two of Deep Silver’s more iconic franchises.

Deep Silver is the publisher of Dead Island 2, and its publishy hands have certainly made their way into some of the assets you can see in the game. Throughout the game’s various arcades, such as those in the Goat Pen, or those in the Santa Monica Pier level, there are several arcade cabinets paying homage to Deep Silver IPs. One of them is Timesplitters, which was developed by Free Radical Design, one of the dev studios that is and was owned by Deep Silver at the time of creation. There’s also a homage to Homefront, another game that Deep Silver was part of.

(Please give me a new Timesplitters game; that map maker was too big a part of my childhood.)

There are also direct references to other popular arcade games as well, like Space Invaders and Tetris, but, they don’t have the license for those direct homages for those.

English Myths

A tribute to St George and King Arthur.

We’ve all heard the tale of the Sword in the Stone and Excalibur. The myth is that the heir of Arthur, who wields the magical strength to the lift the sword from the stone, will become the king of the Britons. Well, it turns out that myth has made its way to LA. If you head over to the entrance to the main pier on the Santa Monica Pier map, directly opposite the stores and near the stairs and disability ramps, then you can find some stone ornaments. At this very entrance is a stone dragon, with a claymore you can pick up stuck in its head. You can keep the weapon too if you pick it, So, go forth, my heir of Arthur, and slay zombies.

Sam the Dog Easter Egg

Emma named her dog after Sam B.

If you happen to explore the garden area of Emma Jaunt’s home in Bel-Air, you will come across the grave of Emma Jaunt’s dog, Sam. It turns out that the dog’s name is rather coincidental, and as we learn, Sam B and Emma had a thing going on way before the outbreak of Banoi and LA. So, it seems that Emma named a dog after her former lover.

You can also find a dog collar called Sam as well in Emma’s bedroom. But, that one might have an extra meaning, if you catch the drift…

Also, this grave gets a companion later on in the main story. It’s spoiler related, so we’ve hidden it in the paragraph below. View at your own discretion.

When you return from Justifiable Zombiecide back to Emma Jaunt’s place with Sam B, you will find Michael has returned. However, one of the issues is that Michael gets bit. When Michael turns, and your put him down, you will later find that Michael’s grave is next to Sam the dogs. It’s a nice little attention to detail that Emma cared for him.

Humans Are Such Easy Prey

A fitting song name for a fitting moment in the game.

This is not so much an easter egg, but rather a song we recongized while playing the game that added a nice touch. If we appreciated it, we figured you’d might too.

During the fight in the Santa Monica Pier Arcade, a song plays as you enter, and during the ‘Kill Them All’ Sequence. This song only plays once, despite you being able to go into that arcade again with music playing inside, followed by the occasional zombie spawn.

Turns out this song is called Humans Are Such Easy Prey by Pertubator. It’s quite a nice and fitting song considering the dark synth theme and the lyrics about being unable to bargain or reason with them. You can check that song out on YouTube, Spotify or another audio streaming service of your choice.

Skopes & Alexas

Skopes can turn on and reveal journal entries andfacts. But, they are clearly easter eggs to Alexa, which is tech used by Amazon in this game.

Throughout the game world, you will find an electronic device called a "Skope" iconSkope. These are voice-activated machines you unlock later in the game that give your journal entries and other random facts. These are obvious connections to Alexa devices by Amazon. More importantly, the game has Alexa Voice Control to add an extra layer of voice commands to the game. It’s both an easter egg and a feature with their technology partner.
