Dead Island 2

Missing: Rainier

By
Jessica Dillon

Missing: Rainier is one of the last missing-person quests you will come across in the game. This quest has you going back to some of the most dangerous areas and gives a bit more lore to the game’s mysterious Numens. Finding Rainier and trying to save him can be a bit of a hassle, though, especially since you need to do a lot of fighting. The guide below goes over how to complete Missing: Rainier and where to find the Custodian’s Locker Key in Dead Island 2.

How to Start Missing: Rainier in Dead Island 2

Missing: Rainier is a quest that pops up once you have completed the main story of Dead Island 2. You can find it at the Sterling Hotel missing person board. Rainier was a test subject, and you are tasked with going back to the Ocean Avenue Lab to try and find him. This is the same location where you fought Noah in The Search For Truth quest.

Where to Find Rainier in Dead Island 2

Head back to the lab where you fought Noah. There are several zombies gathered around it and in the hallway leading inside, including a "Crusher" iconCrusher.

Head into the lab and fight your way through the zombies.

Once you make your way back into the heart of the lab, you will find that it’s filled with zombies, including a "Firestorm Slobber" iconFirestorm Slobber. Wipe everyone out, and then kill the Firestorm "Slobber" iconSlobber, as he will drop a note when defeated, telling you where Noah was taken.

(1 of 2) Slay the Firestorm Slobber to get the next clue.

You will now need to fast-travel to Hollywood Boulevard and run back down the strip to The Metro entrance. Once inside, you will need to descend to the floor above the blocked stairways. Defeat all the zombies along your way, and once you are closest to him, you will hear Rainier talking to you when you are close to him. Once they are wiped out, go to the red door on the left side of the room to speak with Rainier.

Speak with Rainier through the bright red door to continue the quest.

You will now need to jump down the steps to the lower level to get the Utility Closet Key. This, of course, is being carried by a strong Crusher named Lenny. Once you get his health down, a bit more zombies will start spawning in. Watch out as a "Screamer" iconScreamer will eventually spawn, that you will need to deal with quickly so that you won’t get overwhelmed. Once you defeat Lenny, he will drop the Utility Closet Key, pick it up, and go back upstairs to unlock the bright red door.

(1 of 2) Defeat Lenny to free Rainier.

Sadly, Rainier has turned into a "Burster" iconBurster, backup, and uses a gun or curveball to take him out. You will also have to deal with the zombies around you. At this point, Missing: Rainier will be complete, and you will get the Superior Melee Puncturartor Mod Blueprint.

Where to Get The Custodian’s Locker Key in Dead Island 2

You will still want to head into the closet where he was staying. Once you are done, head into the closet and pick up Rainier’s note and the Custodian’s Locker Key.
