Resident Evil 4 Remake A Savage Mutt Request

By
Ben Chard

Resident Evil 4 Remake brings a whole host of new features to an already excellent game. The addition of Blue Request Notes are one such feature and completing them will reward you with useful items and other resources. This page focuses on a request that you will come across in Chapter 5, A Savage Mutt.

A Savage Mutt is a request in Chapter 5 of Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Request Area Reward
Defeat the strong threat Village Chief’s Manor Spinel x8

Where to Find the Savage Mutt

This is one of the easiest Requests to miss in Resident Evil 4 Remake. This is due to the fact that when it becomes available, you have a short window to complete it in before you lose access to the part of the village that it spawns in. Once you trigger the encounter at the end of Chapter 5, you’re on a linear path until you leave the village for good.

To compound matters, it’s not apparently obvious how you get the Savage Mutt to spawn, despite the game giving you the location (the Village Chief’s Manor). You’ll find the note itself near the Merchant as you return to the Town Hall, be sure to pick it up and then return to the Village Square.

(1 of 3) Pick up the request near the merchant

You’re not directed back to the Village Chief’s Manor at any point at this stage of the game, you’re intended to head through the farm to the extraction point. Ignore this, however, and return to the Village Chief’s Manor via the southern exit. Once there, you can head up to the attic now to score some Treasures and another Castellan statue by using Ashley to knock down the ladder.

As you go to exit through the gates outside the manor and return to the Village Square, you’ll see the appearance of the Savage Mutt, your mark!

How to Defeat the Savage Mutt

The Savage Mutt, as you may expect from its name, is a mutated dog, much like some of the others you encountered near the Church, only this one is already mutated and is far more aggressive.

Your first task should be to instruct Ashley to stay away, you don’t need her getting in the way and getting struck by the plagas sticking out of its back. The Savage Mutt will jump around the area before pausing and looking to strike you with the plagas. Keep your distance, as it will do multiple strikes at once which, if you’re caught in all of them, can be fatal.

To make short work of this encounter, bring a health supply of Flash Grenades (which you can craft yourself if you purchased the recipe). Like all enemies that have their plagas revealed, it will stun them, allowing you to rush in and use a knife attack on it. If you bring enough Flash Grenades, you can repeat this until the Savage Mutt dies.

(1 of 3) Use Flash Grenades to knock the dog to the ground

If you’re lacking the Flash Grenades, then you’ll need to go it the hard way. Wait for an opening, grab your Shotgun, and blast away at the plagas on its back. You’ll need to be careful and not get too close or you could suffer a plagas attack, otherwise, it’s no different from any other dog encounter.

Once the Savage Mutt is defeated, continue on until you reach the next Merchant to turn in the request, you’ll receive a massive 8 Spinels for your trouble!
