How to Defeat Saddler in Resident Evil 4 Remake

By
Ben Chard

Resident Evil 4 Remake features many iconic battles, and the one against Osmund Saddler is the final boss, taking place at the end of Chapter 16. As this is the last battle, you should make sure you are fully upgraded and prepared before heading into the battle. This page will detail how to defeat Saddler before making your escape from the island.

Saddler is the final boss in Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Saddler Boss Fight in RE4 Remake

As mentioned above, the battle against Saddler is the final one in the game, and as such, you’ll want to spend some time at the last Merchant to fully upgrade any guns you can, repair your Body Armor, and stock up on any resources and healing items if possible. If you have a Magnum, consider fully upgrading the firepower on it, if you’ve been saving your ammo, now is the time to unload it all.

When it comes to the guns you bring into the battle with you, bring your strongest Handgun (the Red9 is great here), Shotgun, the Stingray, a Magnum, and one of the automatic weapons to deal with the Novistadors that feature in this battle. Once you’re ready for the showdown with Saddler, head through the door and head over to binoculars icon, Leon will spot Ada and advise Ashley to stay back while he wades into what is an obvious trap.

Phase 1

Despite seeing several changes from his boss fight in the original Resident Evil 4, Saddler is still a surprisingly simple battle and if you’ve come in well prepared, you shouldn’t have too many issues. Still, he has a few attacks that you’ll need to keep an eye on, and you can learn about them below:

  • Claw Swipe: Saddler will use one of his legs to swipe across at Leon, watch out for the evade prompt to avoid it.

  • Leap: Saddler will leap from place to place, dealing damage if you’re caught in it. Later in the battle, this can knock away parts of the floor.

  • Scream: Saddler will retreat to the center of the area and let out a scream. This will summon a swarm of Novistadors that will attack you throughout the battle.

  • Acid Spew: Much like Salazar, Saddler will add an Acid Spew to his arsenal once he’s near the end of phase 1. Like the Salazar battle, keep moving to avoid it.

(1 of 3) You will need to burst all of the eyeballs on Saddler

The weak points on Saddler are obvious, he has eyeballs situated all over his massive body, and you’ll need to burst each one to cause him to reel and fall to the ground, giving you the prompt for a knife finisher on his largest, central eye. You’ll need to repeat this several times in this first phase to take Saddler to his second and final phase.

Early on in the battle, you should be able to burst the eyeballs without too much fuss, especially if you have a good aim. Be sure to lure him to the cannisters and explode them, this will stun him briefly and allow you to fire away at those eyeballs without danger of him swiping you. All of Saddler’s swipes can be evaded if you press the button prompt in time.

There are also plenty of crates to break, along with herbs scattered about, so you shouldn’t have too much of an issue with resources in this battle. Just remember to keep your distance from him and fire away at the eyeballs, then use a knife finisher.

After dealing enough damage to Saddler, he’ll retreat to the center of the arena and let out a scream. This will summon a swarm of Novistadors, the flying bugs you fought off in the mines and the ballroom of the castle. These will now accompany Saddler as he attempts to attack you and you’ll have to deal with them for the rest of the battle.

(1 of 4) Saddler will summon Novistadors constantly

These are bait, however, as you’ll want to ignore them other than when they’re right in your face. Saddler will scream throughout the rest of the battle, so you’ll never be truly free of them. The Novistadors will go down easily, and provide you with more resources, but focus your attention on Saddler unless you have no choice but to deal with a few Novistadors.

Saddler’s movement will slightly speed up here, but it should still be easy enough to outrun him. You can even run behind him if you’re careful enough to watch out for an evade prompt. Once you bring him close to the end of his first phase, Saddler will start spewing acid at you, keep moving to the side to avoid it. Keep hitting his eyes and performing knife finishers and Saddler will mutate once more, starting the final phase.

Phase 2

Fortunately, phase 2 isn’t much of a phase at all, despite Saddler’s now gargantuan size. Your gaze may be drawn to the massive eyeball in front of you, and you’ll notice you don’t have much space to maneuver into. Don’t let that worry you though, your goal here is a simple one, unload your strongest weapons into the large eyeball.

If you have a Magnum at hand, now is the time to use it (especially if it’s upgraded), there’s no other reason to hold on to the ammo (unless you want it for a New Game Plus) so feel free to go wild with it and it’s hard to miss your target. Saddler’s only attacks here consist of him trying to swipe you, but you have plenty of time to evade it using the prompt.

(1 of 2) Use your strongest weapons like a Magnum on the large eyeball

Use your strongest weapons like a Magnum on the large eyeball (left), this will prompt Ada to drop the Rocket Launcher that will finish the battle. (right)

Deal enough damage to Saddler and Ada will arrive, dropping a present in the form of the Rocket Launcher (Special). Once you pick this up, you’ll be unable to change your weapon, but that matters little, take aim and fire at the large eye to put Saddler down for good and end the battle. Don’t rejoice yet though, there’s the matter of making your escape from the island first!
