Ramon Salazar Boss Fight in Chapter 12

Before you head into the battle against Ramon, take the time to make sure you have a health supply of ammo for weapons such as the Stingray (a good rifle helps here) along with some grenades if you wish to obtain the You Talk Too Much Trophy. It’s not the end of the world if you don’t have this available, there are opportunities to find supplies during the battle but coming in prepared means you can focus on the battle at hand.

Once you enter the area, you’ll see Ashley get whisked off yet again, this time by Krauser and you’re left to deal with Ramon once and for all. This is arguably the second true boss battle in Resident Evil 4 Remake (Mendez in Chapter 6 being the other) and as such, you’ll need plenty of ammo here.

Salazar will move around the area at speed and can very quickly close the gap to you, that’s why it’s a good idea to spend the first moments of this battle to get the lay of the land and break the barrels for more resources. Also, pay special attention to the large pillar here, it’ll be where you can go to avoid most of his attacks.

Speaking of attacks, Salazar has numerous available to him, and you can learn all about them below:

(1 of 4) Ramon will drop acid bubbles that will explode or can be shot

  • Chomp: This is by far Salazar’s deadliest attack, he will close the gap to you and then lunge towards you, attempting to chomp you. If he catches you, it will kill you instantly, there is no escape. Keep running away from Salazar whenever he gets too close!

  • Acid Bubbles: Salazar will go around dropping acidic bubbles that will persist on the ground. Should you get close to these, they will explode and knock Leon down, allowing Salazar to close the distance. Shoot these from range to deal with them and collect the resources they hide.

  • Acid Spew: Salazar’s other go-to attack will see him spew a massive stream of acid, if it strikes Leon, it will knock him down along with dealing damage. You can avoid this by keeping moving or by hiding behind the pillar.

  • Charge: Salazar will generally charge around on the ground at speed, if he makes contact with Leon, he will momentarily knock him to the ground which will open him up for more attacks. Again, keeping on the move is the best way to deal with this.

The battle mainly comes down to using the pillar to avoid most of Salazar’s attacks, whenever you see him getting ready for an Acid Spew, fire some rounds at the exposed body and then hide against the pillar. The weak point in general is the entire exposed body when the mouth opens, not the eye so aim at the body for more accuracy.

The body is generally exposed whenever Ramon goes to spew his acid, but it will also open from time-to-time when he’s talking. Dealing enough damage with a weapon like the Stingray or other fast-firing weapons will eventually cause Salazar to drop to the ground, and you can rush over to him to perform a knife finisher on him. You’ll need to repeat this process two-four times (depending on how upgraded your knife is) to defeat Ramon fully.

(1 of 4) You can use the pillar to easily avoid most of Salazar’s attacks

If at any point in the battle you see Ramon close the distance, you need to get away as quickly as possible. There’s a chance that he is getting ready to lunge at you, and should he catch you, you’ll get chomped and be instantly killed, regardless of however much health you had left at the time of the grab. Still, this is also the time where you can toss a grenade into his mouth for the You Talk Too Much! Trophy/Achievement.

As the battle goes on, you may find yourself light on supplies, this is where the Acid Bubbles come into play. Salazar will be dropping these with greater frequency at this point and you can shoot them from range to collect any resources, usually in the form of Gunpowder or Handgun ammo. Keep up the assault on Salazar and eventually you’ll defeat him and obtain the No Thanks, Bro! Trophy/Achievement. Be sure to also pick up the Lip Rogue on his body to sell at the Merchant.

Ramon Salazar Golden Egg Strategy

There’s a hidden secret when it comes to this battle that will make your life a lot easier. This is especially useful for when you want to skip the majority of the battle on a Professional Mode or Speedrun playthrough as it will make short work of him.

There are two easy Golden Eggs you can find in Resident Evil 4 Remake, the first one can be found in Chapter 4, on the lake. The second can be found in the previous Chapter, by using the Cubic Device in the throne room, this should be the hint you need to know when it comes to the Gold Eggs.

When the battle against Ramon starts, equip a Golden Egg and toss it at Salazar, this will deal over 3/4 of his health and drop him to the ground, allowing you to perform a knife finisher on him. Use the other Gold Egg when he gets back up and you’ll end the battle right there, simple as that. It’s best to use this on a second playthrough, as you’ll need these two golden eggs for the two requests related to them.
