Remaster or Remake?

You’ll be forgiven for having the question on just what is Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion, especially with the recent release of Final Fantasy VII Remake and soon, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

The answer to this question isn’t so clear. At it’s nature, Reunion is technically a Remaster in the way that it retains 100% of the PSP original. Where it does change, however, is with the graphical polish the game has had across the board, along with some quality of life changes. Still, Crisis Core Reunion has no additional content from the original.

What’s new in Reunion?

With all of that in mind, what does Reunion bring new to the table? The list below will give you all the details:

  • A complete overhaul of the graphics, bringing them closer to the style used in Final Fantasy VII Remake

  • Zack has a new Voice Actor, to match the one in Final Fantasy VII Remake

  • More voice acting in general

  • A UI overhaul to match that of Final Fantasy VII Remake

  • A remastered soundtrack

  • Changes to the combat system such as a designated attack button

Does Crisis Core Reunion have a New Ending?

This is one of the most common questions for Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion, especially for players that have finished Final Fantasy VII Remake and the scenes shown at the end there. The answer, however, is that the ending (and all other story content) has been left as is and does not take into account the changes that Final Fantasy VII Remake introduced.

Can you use Hard Mode from the Start?

Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion offers two difficulty modes and you can select from both of them at the start of the game. Bear in mind, that Hard Mode is typically intended for those of you who have beaten the game a first time and playing through on a New Game+.

There is a Trophy/Achievement related to beating the game on Hard, but thankfully, you can switch the difficulty to Hard before the final battle to obtain it.
