Monster Hunter Rise

Great Wroggi

By
Shane Williams

Great Wroggi is a Bird Wyvern which was introduced in Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. You’ll first face this monster during the 3☆ Village Quest, Obnoxious Lord, Noxious Monster.

A closer look at a Great Wroggi.

Overview

Great Wroggi can be found roaming around the Shrine Ruin, Flooded Forest and Lava Caverns. This still isn’t an overly difficult fight compared to some of the later monsters. However, due its size/speed you may find it slightly difficult to get all of your attacks to hit. The Great Wroggi relies heavily on its poison attacks to defend itself, so make sure to carry an Antidote or Herbal Medicine to remove the effect if you get caught.

Attack Patterns

  • Sideways Tackle

Great Wroggi will slide its head along the ground and attempt to knock you over.

Throughout the battle Great Wroggi will turn to its side and dash towards in an attempt to knock you over with its head.

  • Tail Swipe

The Great Wroggi will jump back and attempt to knock you down with its tail.

The Great Wroggi will attempt to knock you over by spinning around and hitting you with its tail.

  • Poison Cloud

Great Wroggi will spit out clouds of poison throughout the battle.

Poison Cloud is arguably Great Wroggi’s more dangerous attack, as if it’ll drain your health over time if you get caught in it.

Strategy

Before entering the battle, make sure you have a good amount of Antidotes for Herbal Medicine available, so you can remove the poison effect. You’ll need a weapon with the correct element equipped, so Ice or Water for this fight, as this will allow you to deal more damage which will decrease the amount of time it will take to defeat Great Wroggi.

As you approach Great Wroggi for the first time, focus on its head to deal extra damage, but this will also increase your chances to get hit by its poison attacks, so try going in for a few hits at a time. You’ll also notice many Wroggi are nearby, but leave those to your Buddies as they dont require many attacks to defeat.

Throughout the battle, Great Wroggi will slide its head along the ground and dash towards you in an attempt to knock you over. As long as you aren’t too close to the Great Wroggi, this should be relatively easy to dodge.
