The Scouting perk tree allows you to focus on enhancing your experience of the campaign map. You can choose to specialise in increased movement speed during the day or night, significantly lower food consumption and increase movement speed in forests, deserts, hills, and marshes. All other perks are accessible without having to choose between two mutually exclusive perks. These include providing you with more tracking information, increased enemy spotting range, and general movement speed. In addition you can slightly increase your hit points from one of the later perks, though this is fairly negligible unless you’re attempting to create the toughest possible build.

Note: Each of the perks listed under a specific level are mutually exclusive. If you invest in one at a particular level, you will never be able to invest in the other at that same level.

Tip: You can only level the Scouting skill when no other companion is assigned the role of Scout. You can assign yourself as a Scout in the clan menu on the campaign map. The easiest way to level the skill is simply by navigating the campaign map, but there are ways in which you can increase the rate of learning by discovering new settlements, bandit hideouts, tracking, and navigating difficult terrain such as mountains, hills, deserts, snowscapes, and marshlands.
