In terms of the main faction troop tree for ranged troops, the Aserai Master Archer has the highest damage output, at 160 with the bow. They are also fairly proficient with most weapon types for when they need to battle in close combat. However, most archers will use one-handed weapons, and most of the best ranged troops have a skill level of 130. The Sturgian Veteran Bowman comes next in terms of damage output, with 140 in bow use, however they do have slightly less damage with one-handed weapons, at 120 compared with the Aserai 130. The Kuzait Marksman is another notable archer, but they do have less bow damage at 130. If you prefer crossbow units, the Imperial Sergeant Crossbow or Vlandian Sharpshooter are notable, but they do have less damage output than the best archer units.

Outside of the main faction troop trees, the Battanian Fian Champion is by far the best archer, with the following stats:

One Handed Two Handed Polearm Bow Crossbow Throwing Riding Athletics
90 220 60 230 25 60 60 170

One of the only downsides to the Battanian Fian Champion is that they can be more difficult to find and recruit. Their troop tree begins with Battanian Highborn Youth > Battanian Highborn Warrior > Battanian Hero > Battanian Fian, and then onto the Champion. In addition, the Battanian Fian Champion is significantly weaker in terms of one-handed ability, though they do have 170 athletics compared with Aserai Master Archer’s 130.

Note: The best way to find and recruit from the Battanian Fian Champion troop tree is by searching for settlements which have individuals who are landowners and whose power rating is Powerful. You can check these properties by hovering over the avatar for each notable in a particular settlement. You can also convert experienced bandit troops into specialised troops once you have the level 125 Leadership perk ‘Disciplinarian’.
