The Haven

By
Jarrod Garripoli

As per usual, the island with Regenstein has now appeared in the present time, meaning you can now go there with your ship. Unlike the previous ones, though, you’ll find something a bit amiss whenever you reach the town. There is nothing there, except the pillar from the middle of the village, and a lady standing in front of it. Before you talk to her, though, pick up the Green Fragment that’s on the ground in front of her (might be a little tough to notice with the grass being a similar color).

Speak with Carey, the woman standing in front of the pillar, and agree to help her out with her little problem. She’s building a town for monsters who’ve always wanted to become humans, and one of them that she was journeying with seems to be missing. From the clues given by Carey, the slime turned human is going to be at Pilchard Bay, so Zoom over there and look on the dock for the artsy-looking NPC. Talking to him and telling him about Carey will send him to The Haven, so Zoom back after he leaves to finish this first portion of this sidequest.

If you talk to him back at The Haven, he will mention another monster in a big town near Pilchard Bay, which happens to be Estard. Go to the second floor of the inn to see this farmer in the room to the north, so talk and tell him about Carey to send him there. Not only does he give you a Traveller’s Tablet when you speak with him at The Haven, but he gives a hint as to the location of the third, and final, person you can recruit.

The first recruit (left) can be found in Pilchard Bay. The second recruit (right) is on the second floor of the inn in Estard.

Zoom to Ballymolloy and enter the big house there. On the second floor, you will find a woman and upon speaking with her, you can send her to The Haven. When you return there, you will notice that there are now two buildings, a pub and a church (don’t forget the Traveller’s Tablet). Unfortunately, the latter doesn’t have an option to save, but it has all of the other functions of the church, and the pub functions as something called a Download Bar. You can basically download Traveller’s Tablets from the internet, provided by Square Enix themselves, with them rotating some in and out on a set schedule.

So, what do you do with these Traveller’s Tablets? If you go down the stairs that Carey mentioned earlier, you will eventually run into a plinth that can be used to place those tablets on, opening up extra optional dungeons. Note that most of these extra dungeons are quite high level and if you want to learn more, check out The Haven’s own section. With three residents in the town, you can grab a Mini Medal (#3) from a barrel in the bar.

There’s one more thing you can do right now, but the sidequest doesn’t officially open up until later in the game. To the right of the plinth where you can place Traveller’s Tablets is a portal that leads to another area called the Monster Meadows. Go inside the house and grab the monster munchies from the desk, reading the note to understand that this place will house monsters that you can recruit. Basically, with the munchies in your inventory, sometimes a monster will approach you after defeating them and you can send them to the Meadows.

These tamed monsters will allow you to create your own Traveller’s Tablets, which is used in the StreetPass portion of the game. For more details on this section, check out the Monster Meadows section of the guide. Additionally, you might get lucky and have monsters drop their hearts for you after battle, which is needed to change into Monster Vocations (something that will unlock after a few more scenarios). That’s about all you can here for now, so it’s time to move onto the next area.
