Clockwork Abomination Boss Guide: Silver Rank - Sea of Stars

By
Jarrod Garripoli

One of the endgame side quests in Sea of Stars involves the Dweller’s Fall Arena in the Port Town of Brisk. You will do battle against a number of enemies, across various ranks. The Bronze Rank was a nice introduction to the whole arena, although it was a bit on the easy side, since you only encountered normal enemies. However, once you beat the Bronze Rank, you will unlock the Silver Rank, which is a bit more challenging, as you will be facing a boss at the end of it.

You will be facing off against this monstrosity in the final battle of the Silver Rank.

Silver Rank in the Dweller’s Fall Arena in Sea of Stars

This rank is going to have you with B’st (as always), Zale and Serai in your party. This limits your healing here, which is not a good thing, since you only have B’st and Zale with single target heals. You will also be facing a boss at the end of the fights, making it even more challenging. However, Serai has Disorient to help with delaying actions, so don’t be afraid to use that here.

Prickly Pirate Party

You will be up against a Melee Matey and two Ranged Mateys here. The Ranged Mateys have Thunder as their special attack, with this version hitting all party members. The Melee Matey seems to be weak against both Sun and Poison, so use Venom Flurry and Sunball. Doing these moves should also weaken the other enemies.

Fancy Fencing Force

You will be dealing with an Anointed, a Revenant, and a Grassassin in this fight. The Revenant may seem weak at first, but once you get its health low enough, it will lose its shield and gain an attack boost. The Anointed’s normal attack is a bit tricky for timing a block, since it delays the move a little bit. The Grassassin’s special move will also hit the entire party, which you don’t want happening, due to your limited healing ability. It’s probably best to focus on the other two first, then deal with the Revenant last.

Once you clear the second battle, you will be moved to the third fight. This one is a little different, though, as you will be facing the Clockwork Abomination.

How to Beat the Clockwork Abomination

The Clockwork Abomination isn’t a difficult battle, as long as you can manage the Locks. All three of the main special moves are annoying in some manner, so you definitely want to get rid of them all. The only reason this battle is even challenging is because of your limited healing ability. If you can break all of the Locks, then you only have to contend with the normal attack, which isn’t bad at all.

All Clockwork Abomination’s Attacks

  • Ring the Bell: This is the Clockwork Abomination’s normal attack. It will grab a character with one of its arms, then pull them towards its body. The character will smack off of the main body for around 45 damage or so. The timing for the block is when your character is about to make contact with the body.

  • Time for Friends!: Four-Lock move, where the boss will summon some Clock Zombies to the battle. That means more targets for you and more damage that your characters will take. Basically, get rid of them as soon as possible and always try to stop this move from being used. The Clock Zombies only seem to do normal attacks.

(1 of 5) Its normal attack can be hard to time for a block.

  • Time for MAYHEM!: Five-Lock special move. The Clockwork Abomination will spit some projectiles from its mouth twice, hitting the entire party both times. Since you are being hit twice, you will need to time the block both times to mitigate the damage to the fullest. This move does around 45 damage to everyone.

  • Time for a snack!: Two-Lock move, where the Clockwork Abomination will make some gears appear, then eat them, healing itself for 285HP. Naturally, you don’t want this happening at all, since it prolongs the battle, so break it every time.

Strategy for the Clockwork Abomination Boss

First and foremost, you definitely don’t want the Clockwork Abomination to use its healing move. It heals for quite a bit and will only prolong the battle, but thankfully, it only has two Locks, so it shouldn’t be hard to break them. If you need to use Serai’s Disorient on anything, this might be it. You will want to try and preserve Zale’s MP for Healing Light, since it is probably your best bet for keeping your HP up on your characters.

(1 of 2) Zale’s Healing Light will likely be your main healing method.

While the Clock Zombies don’t deal a lot of damage, since they only do normal attacks, that damage can add up and make it harder on you. The boss can only summon two at any given time, though, so it’s not too bad if some do get to exist, as it’s the least problematic of the boss’ special moves. Time for MAYHEM! can be annoying, as the attack hits twice and will damage the entire party. It’s not so much the damage, but the fact you can’t heal your entire party that’s the bigger problem.

Managing the special moves of the Clockwork Abomination is the key to making this battle a lot easier on you. Do that and the creature will go down without breaking a sweat. You will unlock the Gold Rank after defeating the boss, as well as receive a Sapphire Ingot for winning.
