How to Open Romaya's Secret Passage - Sea of Stars

By
Jarrod Garripoli

You will gain access to a number of side quests at the end of Sea of Stars, right before the final dungeon. One of these will revolve around Romaya, someone you saw (and encountered) earlier in the game. Well, there’s another side quest that revolves around her at the end of the game, which involves freeing Duke Aventry from her grasp. This page will tell you how to find Romaya’s Secret Passage, how to open it, and tips on how to beat the rematch boss fight.

You’ll need to solve a puzzle in order to enter Romaya’s Secret Passage.

Where to Find Romaya’s Secret Passage in Sea of Stars

As with a lot of these side quests, you will need to wait until you have the ability to fly before you can start it. This happens right before you go into the final story dungeon. Once you’re at that point in the game, go on your boat and enter it (L1/LB/L), then speak with Hortence at the helm. She mentions that she recognizes a soul that seems to be longing, who turns out to be Duke Aventry. He is tied to Romaya and she doesn’t seem to be hiding all too well, as she was seen going in and out of a secret passage.

(1 of 2) Speak to Hortence on your boat to start the side quest.

Speak to Hortence on your boat to start the side quest. (left), Talk with Yolande to find the location of the secret passage. (right)

However, Hortence doesn’t know exactly where it is, and directs you to Yolande. Go into the ship’s hull and find her with the rest of the band, on the right side. Speak to her until she marks the location of the secret passage on your map, which is just off the eastern coast of Wraith Island. You have your location, so head there now, noting you need to fly to it, as the little island is surrounded by mountains. Upon landing there, enter the area to see some sort of puzzle.

How to Solve the Romaya’s Secret Passage Puzzle

There is a statue at the northern end and if you inspect it, you will see it is being held shut by a mysterious force. Serai mentions going to Songshroom Marsh and speaking to Yomara, so that is your next stop. It might be easier to enter from the eastern exit, but it’s still a decent trek to get back to the witch’s hut. Once you do find your way back there, speak to Yomara to find out she isn’t going to directly help you out.

(1 of 2) Yomara will mention to look into her cauldron for a clue.

Yomara will mention to look into her cauldron for a clue. (left), Doing so will show you the symbols needed to solve the puzzle. (right)

However, she mentions her cauldron, which is just to the left of her. Look into the cauldron and you’ll get a glimpse of a locked gate, along with some familiar symbols on the wall. These are what you will need to open the secret passage, so take a picture (or just check the screenshot). Make your way back to Romaya’s Secret Passage, as it’s time to solve the little puzzle here. Use the following notes, along with the pictures of the symbols, to finally open the door.

  • The turbine in the middle will change the colors of the three symbols
  • The left should be red, bottom is green, and right one will be purple
  • The turbines in front of each symbol will change them
  • Red should be three vertical lines, with something on the middle line
  • Green is intersecting lines on the bottom, with the caret keyboard symbol above it
  • Purple is a lightning bolt, with dots in the upper left and bottom right

(1 of 5) The middle fan will control the colors of the three symbols.

Do it right and you can now enter the secret passage. Follow the hallway and you will end up in the room where you first saw the symbols (from the cauldron), except the gate at the top is now open. Dispatch the enemies here, if needed, then climb the wall and open the chest for Romaya’s Journal. Exit to the southeast and you should see Duke Aventry right there. Hand him the journal and after a bit of talking, you will receive the Yellow Flame. With this in hand, head to the Ferryman’s Vigil and show him the Yellow Flame, prompting him to take you to the Half Sunken Tower.
