Croustalion Boss Guide: Special Rank - Sea of Stars

By
Jarrod Garripoli

You’ve bested all of the challenges in the Dweller’s Fall Arena in Sea of Stars, including the Gold Rank, but there is one more fight waiting for you. After clearing the Gold Rank, you will learn there is a Special Rank right after it. Unlike the previous ranks, you will have the full use of your entire party here, although you still won’t be able to use items. The fight against Croustalion awaits!

Croustalion is a special boss in the arena, as you can use your entire party.

How to Beat Croustalion in Sea of Stars

The beginning portions of the fight against Croustalion will be a little rough, mostly because it will summon two Measure Chests. One will heal the main boss, while the other will pelt you with spells. This is in addition to the moves that Croustalion will perform, which aren’t anything to laugh at really. However, once you get rid of the two Measure Chests (they won’t get resummoned), the battle becomes much more manageable, which will make things a lot easier for you in the long run.

All Croustalion’s Attacks

The first two moves will have Croustalion summoning the two Measure Chests, after which, it will resort to its other attacks.

  • Summon Measure Chest: The first two turns will have the Croustalion summon two Measure Chests into the battle. The one on your left side will heal, while the one on the right side will hit you with magic spells. They are both quite tanky, but the healing one should be your first priority.

(1 of 3) Croustalion will summon two Measure Chests at the beginning of the battle.

  • Debris Toss: The Croustalion’s normal attack, where it will simply toss an anchor/spiked ball at one of your characters. It will deal about 45 damage to that character.

  • Kondo Throwdown: Five-Lock special move. Croustalion will jump into the air and come crashing down on your entire party. It will deal around 70-75 damage, but it should be fairly easy to time a block with the attack.

  • Petarade: Eight-Lock special move. The boss will fire cannonballs out of the cannons on its back, which will then fall on your characters randomly. Some characters will likely get hit more than others, so the damage will vary. This is by far the most dangerous attack, so you will want to try and either reduce its power or just outright break all the Locks.

  • Heal: The left (to you) Measure Chest will just constantly do this move over and over. It has four Locks and will heal around 260 HP each time. Naturally, you want to always break this move, if possible.

(1 of 5) Petarade has the potential to be lethal, as the attacks are random.

  • Thunder: The right Measure Chest will perform this move, which is four Locks. You’ve seen this plenty of times throughout the game, as lightning will strike all three of your characters. Note that the first two lightning bolts will miss, so time your block for the third one. It will likely only do 25-30 damage to everyone.

  • Bubble Drop: Another move the right Measure Chest will do, with it also being four Locks. Of course, you’ve seen this attack plenty of times prior to this, where your characters (yes, this one hits all three) will be trapped in a bubble, raised into the air, and then dropped to the ground. This only does around 25 damage to everyone, so it’s not too bad.

Strategy for the Croustalion Boss

Croustalion is definitely a challenging boss, but becomes a little easier once you know what you’re up against here. There’s a good amount going on in this battle, simply because of the Measure Chests that it will summon on its first two turns. While more damage is never a good thing, the damage the right Measure Chest does isn’t really all too great. The bigger threat is definitely the left Measure Chest, as it will pretty much just spam Heal over and over. So, the first thing you should do is go straight after the left chest.

It should be noted that Croustalion won’t resummon the chests after defeating them, which makes it a no-brainer to get rid of them first, starting with the left one, of course. The right chest will use both Thunder and Bubble Drop, both moves that you should know by now, and both of which are relatively easy to time a block. After summoning the two chests, Croustalion will go into using its own attacks. All of them quite hurt, too, with Petarade being the biggest outlier. The reason this attack is bad is because of the random damage it can do.

(1 of 5) Immediately start the battle by focusing on the left Measure Chest.

Petarade also has eight Locks, so breaking all of them isn’t going to be easy, especially if the two chests are still kicking. Kondo Throwdown also hurts, but it’s a little easier to block, and the damage is consistent. You could have one character take all of the hits from Petarade, but that’s very unlikely and you could just consider yourself unlucky at that point. Once you get rid of the two chests, though, things become much easier. Croustalion is still a tough boss, though, but you can solely concentrate on it, so your attention won’t be divided.

Upon defeating Croustalion, you will unlock the Glassdiator trophy/achievement, as well as be rewarded with the Vitric Simulacrum, which is B’st’s best armor (he doesn’t use weapons). You will also notice that Croustalion shrinks in size and learn that it will take habitat on your ship. You are finally finished with the Dweller’s Fall Arena.
