Elder Mist Boss Guide - Sea of Stars

By
Jarrod Garripoli

You will come across many enemies during your adventure through Sea of Stars, some of which are stronger than others. These bosses will require you to think a little more strategically, as they can be very challenging. At the end of the Elder Mist Trials, you will be pitted against the Elder Mist, as one final trial before he allows you to continue your journey.

The Elder Mist will issue the final test himself!

How to Beat the Elder Mist in Sea of Stars

If you don’t know what you’re doing, the Elder Mist can heavily punish you. That’s because if you attack the main body while the sword is still active, he will counter you with an attack that hits the entire party. That means it’s pretty important to always go after the sword first, before you can concentrate on the main body. Other than this, the battle is fairly straightforward and you shouldn’t have too much trouble with this boss. Thankfully, the spell restriction from the dungeon has been lifted, so you are able to use everything at your disposal now.

All Elder Mist’s Attacks in Sea of Stars

  • Sword Active: Counter Slash: You will only see this attack if you attack the main body, while the sword is still active. He will counter with a sword swipe, that hits your entire party for about 20 damage.

(1 of 3) The Fist Smash will only hit a single character for okay damage.

  • Fist Smash: This is Elder Mist’s normal attack. He will just use his fist to attack a single party member. It will deal about 17 or so damage. As with most attacks, you will want to time the button press right before the hit connects with your character.

  • Healing Mist: The Elder Mist’s special attack, this is just a single target heal. If he does this on the main body, it’ll heal for around 45HP, while it’s about 55HP when done on the sword.

Strategy for the Elder Mist Boss in Sea of Stars

As mentioned above, the main point of this battle is that the Elder Mist will counter with the sword, if you attack the main body while it’s still active. This counter will do a lot of damage to the entire party, so you definitely don’t want that happening. That makes it imperative that you attack the sword until you remove it from battle; it will have 90 HP, so it will be a little bit before you destroy it. However, the catch is that the Elder Mist can bring the sword back, although it won’t have full health (it respawns with about 55HP).

(1 of 3) Whenever you see the sword is active, you want to focus on it.

Apart from that, the battle is pretty straightforward and there isn’t too much else to talk about here. The Fist Smash attack doesn’t do too much damage and if you time the block on it, you might see it only doing around 13-15 damage. His special move, when you see the Locks, is Healing Mist, which is a single target heal. This will only prolong the battle, so you likely want to always break the Locks. It does seem like the Elder Mist’s Locks will always be catered towards Valere, so you will probably want to save your MP on her, just in case.

Overall, the sword is the key to this battle and taking it out each time it appears makes it a lot easier. After the battle is over, you’ll be able to leave the Trials area and return back to the Mountain Trail. It will now be in the middle of the night and the Elder Mist wants you to change it to dawn. You will achieve this by standing on the Celestial Rune, one of which is to your west, and holding L2/LT/ZL or R2/RT/ZR. You can use this ability to power some mechanisms, like the thing right next to you.

(1 of 2) The Celestial Runes will be used to present puzzles throughout the game.

Once you regain control, stand on the Celestial Rune and use either button to rotate the light, so that it settles on the diamond at the top. This will light the smaller diamonds and make a bridge, so you can continue left. Before doing that, head all the way to the right to find some Grains and Potatoes. After crossing the first light bridge, you’ll have to do the same thing to construct the second light bridge. Exit to the left to return to the world map. Enter the Evermist Island’s Landing area and speak to the Elder Mist for more scenes, before you’re launched to a new area, X’Tol’s Landing.
