Romaya Boss Guide: Half Sunken Tower - Sea of Stars

By
Jarrod Garripoli

One of the side quests in Sea of Stars involves freeing Duke Aventry from his servitude, as he belongs to Romaya. You had a previous encounter with her during the main story, but the second time you confront her will be towards the end of the game. You will need to find Romaya’s Secret Passage, which will then lead you to the Half Sunken Tower. The rematch against her will definitely be a lot tougher than your first time.

Yep, you will have to fight Romaya for a second time.

How to Beat Romaya at Romaya’s Secret Passage in Sea of Stars

The refight with Romaya is pretty similar to the first encounter, with Romaya summoning minions to do her dirty work. Of course, she does have a new trick up her sleeve, but the fight will pretty much play out the same. As with the first fight, she will be accompanied by a Bone Pile and Flesh Pile. This is where her minions come from, so getting rid of them will help out a lot, as you won’t have to deal with any extra enemies.

All Romaya’s Attacks at Romaya’s Secret Passage

The majority of the attacks will be the same during this rematch against Romaya, although there is a new move she can do.

  • Eyeball Shot: This is Romaya’s normal attack, where she’ll conjure up an eyeball and shoot it at a character. It will do about 45-50 damage to that character.

(1 of 4) Her regular attack is just shooting an eyeball at someone.

  • Summon Undead: Romaya will summon a minion from one of the two piles. If it’s the Bone Pile, the minion will be a Revenant. If it’s the Flesh Pile, the minion will be a Lonzon. The pile being summoned from will take 500 damage.

  • Necromancy: A combined summoning, where Romaya will take a part from each of the piles and conjure up a Gulgul. Both piles will take the 500 damage during this move.

  • Bone Pillar: Romaya will summon a stack of bones that she will stand upon, making it so you won’t be able to target her until they’re destroyed. There are usually more than one level to the entire Bone Pillar and each level has to be destroyed, too. It does tend to be destroyed in a single hit, though.

  • Bone Cage: With two Locks, Romaya will place some bones around a character, preventing them from acting. Attack the cage to destroy it and allow that character to act again. The cage has 195 HP.

(1 of 4) Romaya makes herself unable to be targeted when she uses Bone Pillar.

  • Felfire Rain: She will usually start using this move once one of the piles is gone, but can use it anytime. With a massive 10 Locks, she will summon some poison rain that will hit all of your party for some good damage. At full strength, this attack can deal around 75-80 damage to the entire party.

Strategy for the Romaya Boss at Romaya’s Secret Passage

The second fight with Romaya plays out mostly the same as the first one, except she will have a few extra tricks in her bag. For starters, Romaya is mostly about summoning minions to do her fighting for her. There will be a Bone Pile and Flesh Pile next to her at the beginning of the battle. It is from these that she will summon enemies, with a Revenant coming from the Bone Pile and a Lonzon from the Flesh Pile. She does have a move called Necromancy, which combines pieces from both piles to summon a Gulgul. Every time a pile is used, it will lose 500 HP, so it’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Of course, those piles should be the first thing to go, as her summoning minions will just slow things down for you. Outside of those, Romaya will do stall tactics to basically prevent you from damaging her. First is the Bone Pillar, which has multiple levels to it. While this is active, you won’t be able to target Romaya, so you will have to destroy each tier. Luckily, the Bone Pillar is weak, so it should only take a single attack to break it. The other stall tactics comes in the form of Bone Cage, which is always the special with two Locks.

(1 of 2) The most annoying part of the battle is when she’s on the Bone Pillar and uses her special moves.

Should this go off, some bones will appear around the targeted character, preventing them from doing anything. They won’t do any damage, but you will have to attack the Bone Cage to destroy it and free your character. Note that it is possible for Romaya to do two Bone Cages in a row, leaving only a single character free. The other two abilities are attacks that can actually hurt you, although her normal attack doesn’t really do too much damage. It is Felfire Rain that can be a nuisance, since it has a whopping ten Locks. Use moves that can delay, if needed, as the turns get lesser as the battle goes on.

How to Free Duke Aventry in Sea of Stars

Upon defeating Romaya here, you will receive the Aventry Locket for your troubles. Exit through the passage to the left of Romaya to return to the campfire, then double back to the Ferryman. He will take you to the Flooded Graveyard, so head all the way to the western side to find Duke Aventry. Show him the locket and his memories will come back, which will free him. He will give you Duke Aventry’s Key before disappearing, though, but you will unlock the Free From Serviduke trophy/achievement here.

(1 of 3) Report back to Duke Aventry, who’s in the Flooded Graveyard.

There’s still one little bit left, though, involving that key. Jump into the water just south of where Aventry was and swim to the west. There will be a small crypt here, so head inside. Aventry’s coffin is here, meaning you can use the key to open it. Do this and you will receive an Eclipse Armor and the Aventry Crest. The first one is the best armor for Zale/Valere, while the second item is an artifact you can show to Teaks. That’s it, you’re now done with this side quest!
