Sylgain Boss Guide: Gold Rank - Sea of Stars

By
Jarrod Garripoli

One of the endgame side quests in Sea of Stars involves the Dweller’s Fall Arena in the Port Town of Brisk. You will do battle against a number of enemies, across various ranks. The Silver Rank upped the challenge, by introducing your first boss of the arena. After defeating the Clockwork Abomination, you will unlock what seems like the final tier, the Gold Rank. Things will be a little more challenging here, in terms of the normal enemies, and the boss you face at the end might not be quite up to snuff.

The champion of the Gold Rank awaits you!

Gold Rank in the Dweller’s Fall Arena in Sea of Stars

B’st will be joined by both Valere and Zale in this set of battles, which gives things a nice round of balance. Lunar Shield is great for negating some attacks, as well as being the only party heal you’ll get here. You also have Zale with his cheap single-target heal, as well as the easy-to-use Sunball. If you really are hurting, then you can save your Combo Points for Mending Light.

Big Buggy & Bad Bunnies

The BigBuggy shouldn’t be too bad, but the SlingRabbits will be the main problems here. They are resistant to your normal attacks, which means you have to expend MP to get rid of them quicker. That’s not too bad, though, as you can always gain some back with normal attacks. Sunball is great here, especially if you have the one accessory that makes it so the splash damage is the same as the main target.

Basic Basement Batch

You have four different enemies here, and it can be a challenging fight. There is a Mermofwizquard, Owlsassin, Scout, and Shroomy Shroomy Knight. The Mermofwizquard should go first, as their normal attack hits the entire party; it is weak to normal attacks and resists everything else, so try not to use boosted moves on it. Once it’s gone, the battle will become slightly easier. The Owlsassin is probably the next strongest, so move on over to it for the second kill.

(1 of 3) Don’t forget that some attacks will deal splash damage to nearby targets.

Save your Combo Points for a Mending Light, as you never know when you might need it. Also, having Valere use Lunar Shield for a turn or two might be a good idea, if only for the blocking of one attack, although the little bit of healing also helps. As said above, you want to get rid of one or two enemies as soon as possible, since taking damage from all four is not a good idea. Once you start clearing out some of the enemies, the battle becomes a lot easier.

With the second battle coming to a close, it’s time for the final round, which will be against the champion, Sylgain.

How to Beat Sylgain in Sea of Stars

Honestly, the second battle in the Gold Rank is likely going to give you more trouble than this one. All of Sylgain’s attacks only hit a single character, and his most dangerous move isn’t going to force you to immediately heal. Just keep an eye on your health and heal when needed, as this is the calm before the storm.

All Sylgain’s Attacks

Sylgain only has three attacks in his arsenal, none of which are going to be a major pain, since they all hit only a single target.

  • Uppercut: Sylgain’s normal attack will have him performing an uppercut on a single character. There is a bit of a delay before the actual move is performed, but this attack only deals around 20-25 damage to the party member.

  • Selapeleshot sur le jalakelestrap: That’s certainly a mouthful. This is the four-Lock special, where Sylgain will smack you with his belt/strap a total of three times. There is a tiny bit of delay between the second and third hits, so you know when to properly get a timed block. This move will deal around 60 or so damage to a single character, which can hurt a lot, but it’s not really a huge burden.

(1 of 3) His uppercut has a delay to it, so it can be hard to time a block.

  • Super Sclout: Five-Lock special move. Sylgain will don his watermelon helmet, climb into the cannon and shoot himself into the air. After a brief moment, he will then come crashing down onto a single party member, dealing around 70 damage to them. It’s not the most damaging move, but it’s his most dangerous one.

Strategy for the Sylgain Boss

Sylgain is a fairly easy boss, as he doesn’t do a whole lot of damage to the party and every single one of his attacks only hits a single character. There’s really not much to say here, since this boss is fairly straightforward. It’s a good idea to just keep an eye on your health, though, as you don’t want to be caught offguard and have someone get KO’ed. If you can break the Locks for his specials, that’s even better, but it’s not of the utmost importance to do so, as neither of the two will really put you in danger.

For defeating Sylgain, you will unlock one more rank for the arena, the Special Rank, as well as receive the Reaper’s Mercy accessory.
