In the distant future, humanity has colonized space, populating an untold number of different systems. In one such system, Halcyon, the colony ship Hope malfunctioned during FTL skip, causing the best and brightest of Halcyon’s prospective colonists to reach their destination much later than intended. The extended stay in cryogenic sleep also presented medical complications - a slight case of explosive cell death - for the would-be colonists that couldn’t be resolved by their fellow colonists, leaving the inhabitants of the Hope a mere curiosity for the few who knew they even existed, and as a myth for everybody else.
Eventually Phineas Welles, a scientist of dubious morality, figures out how to revive the Hope’s colonists without the unfortunate messy side effects. Before he can revive more than one colonist - you - he’s set upon by enemies and forced to flee, sending you to rendezvous with an associate, with your long term goal being to find more of the compound he needs to revive your fellow colonists on the Hope.
After some more mishaps you’ll find yourself alone in the wilderness of Terra 2, a terraformed planet that serves as the humanity’s major home in the Halcyon system. To complete your quest you’ll need to survive hostile wildlife, rapacious marauders, provide some aid to the locals and navigate the politics of the Halcyon’s many factions, the most powerful of which is the corporate conglomerate that effectively rules Halcyon, The Board.
Become the captain of your own starship, assemble a crew of quirky companions and save your fellow colonists on the Hope! Who knows, your fight to revive the Hope’s colonists might just end up saving the entire Halcyon system - or even the entire human race - from becoming victims of corporate incompetence.
