"Magnemite" IconMagnemite Electric/Steel All grass (20%)
"Grimer" IconGrimer* Poison/Dark All grass (30%)
"Trubbish" IconTrubbish Poison All grass (30%)
"Gumshoos" IconGumshoos Normal All grass (20%, Day only)
"Garbodor" IconGarbodor Poison (SOS only) Possible ally Pokemon for "Trubbish" IconTrubbish

*** indicates Alolan form.**

A small area just outside of Malie City. To start with, continue following the main road north. Before the road starts to bend, there’s a Pokemon trainer to the right who wants to battle. Or if you’d prefer, you can sneak behind him through the tall grass.

Janitor Melvin

Pokemon Level Type
"Trubbish" IconTrubbish 26 Poison
"Trubbish" IconTrubbish 27 Poison

Literally rubbish, not that they’re bad Pokemon, mind. Either way, clean them up with a strong Ground or Psychic Pokemon.

Afterwards, carry on north. Towards the far north-west corner, there’s an Antidote on the floor, near the tall grass. Next, head east towards the south side of the Recycling Plant. An event will occur and you’ll be invited to a Pokemon battle.

Janitor Shawn

Pokemon Level Type
"Muk" IconMuk (Alolan) 27 Poison/Dark

This multi-coloured slime is only weak to Ground moves. Otherwise, Pokemon that resist Poison or Dark, such as Steel-types, are your best bets. Try to finish it fast before it spams Minimize to bolster its Evade. Smart Strike is good if you’ve learned it.

Next, you’ll be facing the apprentice. Time to put on a brave face!

Ace Trainer Chase

Pokemon Level Type
"Grimer" IconGrimer (Alolan) 29 Poison/Dark

The unevolved form of "Muk" IconMuk, so if you could beat Muk, this one should be a no-brainer, even though it’s higher Level. You have to give Chase credit for trying!

For lending a hand, you’ll receive a… Twisted Spoon ? This item boosts the power of Psychic-type moves when held, so it’s not actually trash. Still, appearances can be deceiving. Just a little more and we’re done here! Continue east along the south side of the Recycling Plant.

If it’s day, go and rescue the "Zygarde" IconZygarde Cell (36) below the yellow parked car. After that, chat to the nearby man with the red shirt. He’ll teach you about battle styles, which are the way you look during VS Battles and also when you throw your Pokemon.

Speak to Gester to change your battle style.

You’ll automatically learn the “Elegant” style, although if you beat the Captains after each grand trial, you can also unlock the “Left-handed”, “Girlish” and “Reverent” styles. Refer to the Melemele Sidequests **** and Akala Sidequests for more info!

As for the rest…

Two of those are a lot more involving than the rest. Good luck with ‘em. Next, head north-east towards a familiar looking chap staring at the ocean. Chat to him to receive a Friend Ball , another rare Kurt’s Ball. Once he’s gone, head west behind the car park to find an X Speed .

Almost done. Return to the car park and make your way south towards the row of tall grass, east from Janitor Melvin near the entrance. Wade through to find a small clearing. At the end, there’s a Nugget that somebody failed to notice. Lucky for you!

You’ve practically cleaned up Malie City now. To proceed, return south to the main part of Malie City. Next, follow the main road south towards the south-west corner of town. At the pedestrian crossings, head south-west to reach Route 10.
