Malie City - Continued

By

A good trade if you weren’t lucky enough to find your own.

Your next destination is Route 10, but now that you’ve got some time to yourself, why not check out the sights? After exiting Malie Garden, approach Lillie west from the pedestrian crossing. She’ll leave to find Malie Library, further in the city.

If it’s day time, go ahead and retrieve that "Zygarde" IconZygarde Cell (34) glimmering really obviously between the two yellow parked cars. Try to continue west and you’ll be stopped by a friend of "Rotom" IconRotom’s. Why, it’s Samson Oak, cousin to Professor Samuel Oak from the Kanto region.

He’ll mention something about following the black patterns on the brick road to reach the library. Don’t worry, it’s not that hard to find it… Anyway, carry on west along the main street. The first shop along the street, after passing the first alleyway leading north, is the malasada shop.

Inside, you can order Spicy and Bitter Malasada for 200 Poke Dollars each. Feed these to Pokemon with a Nature that boosts Attack and Special Defense respectively to really boost their friendship level.

West from the malasada shop is another restaurant, the Sushi High Roller. If you played Pokemon X or Y, you may be familiar with this name. Unlike its Kalos counterpart, you won’t be battling any furisode girls; however, you can stay still dine.

Each meal costs 4,000 Poke Dollars and you’ll receive 4 Heart Scales for your patronage. While you’re here, the tourist lady in the south-east corner is looking to trade your "Pancham" IconPancham for her "Happiny" IconHappiny. Pancham is an uncommon Route 10 and 11 Pokemon, while Happiny is fairly rare.

Back outside, head north between the malasada shop and the Sushi High Roller. This is the black-patterned route that Samson was referring to. Notice the black shapes in the middle of each crossroad. The first one you should encounter is the black circle.

East from the black circle is the apparel shop, while to the west is the salon. If you’re looking to update your look, this street is right up your alley. North from here is the black triangle. Unfortunately, there’s nothing of interest along this street. Boo. Continue on.

Just before you reach the black square, you’ll find Lillie in front of Malie Library. After a brief chat, she’ll lead you inside the library, before heading upstairs to the next floor. Before going up yourself, head towards the north-west corner of the ground floor.

The tourist lady sitting below the bookshelves will give you TM76 Fly if you listen to her story. As she said, Fly used to be a Hidden Machine (HM), but there’s no reason for it in Alola since you have "Charizard" IconCharizard Glide. Which is great since HMs are a cumbersome waste of space.

In the far north-west corner, you’ll find Samson Oak. Show him an Alolan "Persian" IconPersian and he’ll give you a Love Ball . This is one of many Kurt’s Balls that you can obtain. Kurt was a Poke Ball smith from Johto who crafts special Poke Balls with unique properties using Apricorns.

It might not seem like a big deal, but it is.

It’s been a long, long time since you could acquire one of his unique Poke Balls, so be sure to treasure it. You’ll eventually be able to collect all of Kurt’s Balls from Samson Oak, but note that you can only get one of each per playthrough. So save them for Pokemon you really adore!

Back to the task on hand, head upstairs to where Lillie is. You’ll learn a bit about the history of Alola’s Legendary Pokemon. No doubt you’ll be catching the Legendary Pokemon before the game’s done! Afterwards, you will be left alone to continue your island trial.

Exit the library and head west into the building: the Malie Community Centre. In the sitting area, chat to the tourist by the vending machine to receive a Strange Souvenir . In Pokemon X and Y, you could obtain this by speaking to a traveler in each of the hotels.

Which reminds us, the vending machine stocks all three types of drink: Fresh Water, Soda Pop and Lemonade. Finally! Towards the south-east corner of the seating area is a little girl who will check the (Pokemon Refresh) affection level of your first Pokemon.

Past the seating area, the first door along the corridor leads to the Weather Class. Inside, if you pass the test, you can receive items that prolong weather effects. Here are the answers for each question:

Past the test and you’ll receive one of each item mentioned in the quiz: an Icy Rock , Smooth Rock , Heat Rock and Damp Rock . How generous! West from here is the Flea Market. If it’s night, there will be a Zygarde Cell (35) shimmering in the corner next to the door.

Inside the flea market, the kid behind the left table is selling a Shiny Stone (Sun) or Dusk Stone (Moon) for 3,000 Poke Dollars. Not right now that is; you’ll need to come back later after he’s made his mind up. The Punk Girl on the right is selling rare and expensive clothing.

That’s pretty much it for our sightseeing tour. Exit the Malie Community Center and head due west, past the library. Once you reach the main road, follow it north towards the Outer Cape.
