How to defeat Chimera

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Punishing Foes are challenging, completely optional bosses that can be found while exploring the game’s worlds, and are tougher than normal encounters. This page will give details on the Punishing Foe, Chimera.

Chimera can be found near the Sukiyabashi Leyline

Where to find Chimera

Chimera is a part of The Horn of Plenty subquest. Because of this, it’s best to wait until you have the quest logged before confronting Chimera. This ensures that the quest item needed is dropped, just to avoid any confusion.

You will likely have already seen Chimera while exploring earlier in the Chiyoda region. If you forgot, teleport to the Sukiyabashi Leyline and head northeast from it. Once you reach the end of the path, look over the edge to see the Chimera running around in the pit below. Simply drop off and strike the Chimera to begin the battle.

Recommended Party

Chimera is strong, as it has a high Strength, meaning its Physical based attacks will be hurting quite a bit. For this battle, you will definitely want to debuff its attack, so make sure you have one or two characters with a means to debuff attack, whether it’s Fang Breaker or Tarunda. You might also have to contend with some ailments in this battle, so bring a health supply of Amrita Sodas, as the ailments can only occur on a single target at a time. Chimera also has access Ziodyne, although it doesn’t seem to use it too often to really worry about it. If you are concerned, just have neutral damage to it.

Lastly, you will see Maragion, but only when Chimera charges its Magatsuhi. That means you can easily mitigate that with a Fire Dampener, so there is no reason to worry about your Fire resistance in this battle. By far, the most damaging move in Chimera’s skillset is Severing Bite. It deals a lot of damage, even if you’ve debuffed its attack to the maximum, so you will definitely want to heal after taking it. Thankfully, it only hits a single target, so the damage is pretty minimal. Frenzied Chomp is where you need to worry about ailments, as it has a chance to inflict Poison, Confusion, or Charm. Remember that you can only have on ailment on at a time, so you won’t be blasted with both Poison and Confusion.

(1 of 3) You will definitely want to debuff Chimera’s attack

Chimera is weak to Force, so you will want to make sure everyone has access to some form of that element. It is resistant to Fire and immune to Electric, so avoid those at all costs. Chimera is also weak to Poison, so if you have access to a skill that can inflict it, you will get some extra damage every turn it takes. For example, the Nahobino can get Profaned Land from the Aogami Type-8 Essence, which is a heavy Dark attack that can also inflict Poison, which can be great to use here, just because of the Poison. It’s not much damage, as it’s about 55-60 per poison tick, but it’s extra. Overall, the battle isn’t too challenging, as long as you keep Chimera’s attack debuffed, first and foremost. Note that the recommended party listed above don’t have inherent Force skills, so you will need to use Essences for that.
