Shin Megami Tensei V

Movin’ on Up

By
Matt Chard

Movin’ on Up is a Subquest in Shin Megami Tensei V. Most Subquests will reward you with a large amount of experience, some Macca, and then you’ll receive an item of sorts. Most of the time, it’ll be a Talisman which allows you to have access to the different Magatsuhi skills in the game.

The Oni is down because no-one wants his help.

Recommended Level Location Rewards
21+ Oni in a cave west of the Nagatacho Leyline. Phys Dampener x1, Raptor Talisman

An Oni wants to be a gang leader and asked you to see if any demons that might need his help.

How to start Movin’ on Up

In order to start this Subquest, teleport to the Nagatacho Leyline, and head southwest. There are two paths on this west side, the top leads to some items, the bottom leads to the quest. When you head up the second path, you should notice a small cave to the west. Inside this cave is where you’ll see Oni, the quest giver. It appears he wants to help out his peers, but no-one wants to accept his good intentions.

You need to take the lower southwestern path to find the cave where the quest is.

Where to find the demons in Movin’ on Up

The demons that you need to speak to can be found just outside the cave.

After you’ve accepted the quest, head back outside the cave, and you’ll see several demons with speech bubbles above their heads. Speak to all of them to find out why they won’t accept the Oni’s help, and they’ll all have their own reasons for it. Head back inside the cave, and tell the Oni what you found out, and he’ll rush outside the cave towards the demons you just spoke to in a fit of rage. As you try to calm him down, he gets aggressive towards you, and a battle ensues, time to put him in his place!

This Oni fight can be pretty tough. He’s level 23, and has access to a couple of hard-hitting Physical attacks, especially Heavy Blow +3. He’s weak to the Electric and Light elements, so Angel is good for this fight. For the rest of the party bring along Aitvaras for his Mirage shot, although it’s the Fire element, it has the chance to inflict Mirage which can make the Oni’s attacks miss.

For the last spot, you can give it to any demon, but Apsaras with the Hama skill is pretty strong. With the Hero, use either Zio if you have it, or Amarasa if you don’t. Keep chipping away at his health by hitting his weaknesses, and healing with Angel if you need to, and he’ll go down eventually.

When you’ve defeated him, one of the demons will thank you for saving them, and reward you with a Raptor Talisman. Head back into the cave, and speak to the Oni, and he’ll tell you that he is the weakest of the Oni. This will finish the quest, rewarding you with a Phys Dampener.
