Exploring Shiba

It’s time to explore beyond Tokyo Tower as you seek to make your way to where Bethel are located. Before you leave the Leyline however, head to Cadaver’s Hollow to see that Gustave has updated his stock:

As you can see, Gustave has started stocking Essences, but they come at a hefty price. For the most part, you can ignore these as you’ll obtain plenty of Essences from Treasure Chests or from the Demons themselves, but these exist for situations where you need a specific resistance or skill to progress a tough foe.

As you press onwards from the Leyline, you’ll trigger a scene and meet Gozo, a Monk from Jozoji Temple. Following his introduction, he’ll hand over the Return Pillar, a vital tool for exploring the Netherworld. You can use it at any point to instantly return to the last Leyline, fantastic if you’re going off the critical path to snag an item and don’t want to make your way back. Amanozako will draw you attention to the city beyond, noting that she saw some Angels and begin the Main Quest, The Angel’s Trail.

For now however, there’s more to explore before making your way down to the city. Head back to the vicinity of the tower and loot the vending machines before making your way to the western edge of this area to find Miman #26 behind a rock here and just beyond here to the southwest is a Treasure Chest containing Light Shard x3. Take a look at the map from here and you should see a nearby Climbing Point, follow this path to the end to reach Amalgam #4 and then use the Return Pillar back to Tokyo Tower Leyline.

If you take a look at your map, you’ll see a path leading down to the southwest of the tower. Start heading this way and keep to the west side and you’ll eventually run into the giant remains of a stone Decarabia. These are known as Demon Statues and are hidden throughout the Netherworld. Interacting with one will cause every demon in your party to gain a level, a powerful tool you should take advantage of when your demons need a lot of Exp. More importantly, this should allow Leanan Sidhe to gain a level if you have her in your party, granting her the powerful Media recovery magic and replacing Angel as your healer.

(1 of 5) Miman #26 can be found to the northwest of Tokyo Tower

You’ll see the path splits into two at this point, take the western-most path first and you’ll come across a large group of Mermaids related to the Cursed Mermaids Quest alongside a battle against Pazuzu. Once the battle is won, search behind the rocks to find Miman #16 and Amalgam #5. Use the Return Pillar (purchase some more Miracles here, especially Magatsuhi Wellspring) and teleport back to Hamamatsucho and head under the road to turn in the Cursed Mermaids. You’ll get a follow-up Quest here, The Demon of the Spring which you’ll be able to cover once you head down into the city.

Use the Return Pillar once more to reach Tokyo Tower Leyline again and head down the southwest path. Once you reach the split in the path, take the eastern-most path this time and you’ll discover that you’re in a new part of Shiba. You’ll encounter Turdaks here, that are weak to Force, along with Pretas which should be a pushover at this point. Head under the highway and look towards the southern edge of the map to find Miman #13. Continue along the south side and you’ll find an opening in the building up ahead, turn the camera to the left as soon as you enter to locate Miman #14.

Continue along to the east and look between the buildings to the north to find a Treasure Chest containing Cait Sith’s Essence. Make your way inside the final building to the east on the south side now and jump up to the floor above to find the final Miman in Shiba, Miman #15. Ignore the road here for now and head to the edge of this area to the east to find a Climbing Point, this will lead to a Treasure Chest containing 1200 Macca and the Anzu Demon Statue. Drop back down now and climb the road leading west and you’ll encounter Zhens for the first time, these flying demons are hard to avoid so you’re better off fighting them to prevent having them gain the initiative against you.

(1 of 4) Miman #13 can be found under the highway

Keep an eye on the building to your right, jumping on the roof will allow you to begin an encounter with a Kushi Mitama, demons that can drop the elusive Gospel items. Return to the highway, deal with more Zhens and then smash open the two Treasure Chests containing a Bead and Tsuchigumo’s Essence. That’s all there is to discover down in this part of Shiba, so it’s time to continue pressing onwards towards the sighting of an Angel, begin by using the Return Pillar to find yourself back at Tokyo Tower once more.
