Shin Megami Tensei V

How to defeat Jikokuten

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Punishing Foes are challenging, completely optional bosses that can be found while exploring the game’s worlds, and are tougher than normal encounters. This page will give details on the Punishing Foe, Jikokuten.

You will find Jikokuten on a ledge in Sotokanda

Where to find Jikokuten

Note this battle is for the Punishing Foe version of Jikokuten, and not the version fought during Keeper of the East. To find this Punishing Foe, first teleport to the Akihabara Leyline, then follow the tracks to another set of train tracks that have Ose on them. Hop on over the gap and keep going northeast, until you get to the spot where the Sotokanda Abscess was located. If you recall, there was a path to the north of it that brought you down into a pit area with some Orthrus. Go down there, then up the hill you find, where you want to use the northern trail that will bring you straight to Jikokuten.

Recommended Party

Jiokokuten is a Punishing Foe that is more prone to use Physical attacks more than anything, and his Physical attacks will hurt, a lot. The reason for this is because of Charge, which greatly increases the damage of the next Strength-based attack. Jikokuten is known to use Charge on his first turn, followed by either Dark Sword or Deathbound on his second turn. This means that the recommended party listed above is great for this battle, since they all resist Physical. That will help you survive against a Charged attack, making it easier to control the battle in your favor.

If Dark Sword happens to inflict Seal on someone, you can easily just use an Amrita Soda on that character to cure it. Likewise, if Jikokuten happens to inflict Mirage with Fogna, you can use either Me Patra or the Amrita Sodas mentioned above. Jikokuten also has access to Marakunda, which you do not want happening with the deadly Charge and attack combo previously talked about, since that will spell death for someone. Either counter this with Marakukaja, Tarunda, or just use Dekunda. You will also see Mabufula, although it seems to be more on the rare side, but it is there.

Dakini is weak to Ice, but if you have someone who blocks it, then that doesn’t matter, as Dakini’s Physical resistance is more important during this battle over that. Also, since Jikokuten is weak to Fire, Dakini having access to Fire skills will help even more. He is immune to Ice, and resistant to Light, so avoid those skills altogether. Whenever Jikokuten charges the Magatsuhi, he will be using Mabufula on his next turn, so don’t forget to use an Ice Dampener.
