Shin Megami Tensei V

The Spirit of Love

Matt Chard

The Spirit of Love is a Subquest in Shin Megami Tensei V. Most Subquests will reward you with a large amount of experience, some Macca, and then you’ll receive an item of sorts. Most of the time, it’ll be a Talisman which allows you to have access to the different Magatsuhi skills in the game.

The Pretas are in need of some food.

Leanan Sidhe is thoughtlessly riling up other demons with her seductive words. Put a stop to her.

How to start The Spirit of Love

In order to start this Subquest, you’ll need to head to the cave, east of the Shiba Leyline. This is the same area where you got the food for the Pretas in the A Preta Predicament quest. Note, you’ll need to have that quest accepted before you can accept this quest. It appears that Apsaras isn’t happy with Leanan Sidhe riling up the demons, and seducing them with her words, and she wants you to put a stop to it.

The Spirit of Love can be accepted from the Apsaras in the cave, east of the Shiba Leyline.

Where to find Leanan Sidhe in The Spirit of Love

With the quest accepted, you’ll need to find Leanan Sidhe. She can be found in a cave south of the Tokyo Tower Leyline, a fair ways northwest of the Shiba Leyline where you accepted the quest.

Leanan Sidhe can be found in a cave, south of the Tokyo Tower Leyline. (left), If you choose to talk to her, you can get “The Water Nymph” quest. (right)

When you speak to her, you’ll have two options. The top option will be to “Fulfill Apsaras’s request” and the bottom option will be to talk to her. If you choose the bottom option, you’ll accept “The Water Nymph” Subquest. Fulfilling Apsaras’s request will put you in battle with her and her bodyguard Ippon-Datara.

This can be a tough fight if you’re not prepared. Subquest bosses in general tend to have more health than their on field counterparts, which is why we recommend being at least 15+, although it can be done earlier.

Azumi_Icon_Shin_Megami_Tensei_V.png Azumi

Ippon-Datara has Physical-based attacks that can hit hard, and he’s weak to Light, but resists Fire. Leanan Sidhe has mostly Dark-based attacks, although she can inflict Charm on one person as well as healing her and Ippon-Datara with Media. She is also weak to Light, but she is also weak to Force as well, but she Nullifies Dark.

Because both of them are weak to Light, Take Angel in the party due to him being one of the few Light-based demons available at this stage in the game. For the other party members, Tsuchigumo is pretty strong in the early game, and Azumi is pretty good too. Finally, change the main character’s affinities if he is weak to Dark. What’s great about this team is no-one is weak to Dark other than Angel, which can instakill you if you are.

Start the battle by taking down Leanan Sidhe, she is by far the most threatening of the two of them. If your Magatsuhi is available, use Omagatoki: Critical on the first turn with the main character, then use Aramasa with him after. You can use Bufu with Azumi, and either Mazio or any buffs you may have with Tsuchigumo. Make sure to use Hama with Angel or Humble Blessing if anyone needs to be healed.

If you’re lucky, Leanan Sidhe should go down after the first full turn, if she’s still alive, guard with Angel on his last turn to avoid getting instakilled. With Leanan Sidhe down, keep up the same rotation on Ippon-Datara, and he’ll go down in no time. His physical attacks can cause some problems so make sure you keep the main character near full HP at all times.

With the battle completed, head back to Apsaras at the cave, east of the Shiba Leyline, and turn the quest in to receive her as a party member, and some rewards.
