How to defeat Daisoujou

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Daisoujou is a fiend that you must defeat in the DLC Subquest “Return of the True Demon” in Shin Megami Tensei V. Most Subquests will reward you with a large amount of experience, some Macca, and then you’ll receive an item of sorts. Most of the time, it’ll be a Talisman which allows you to have access to the different Magatsuhi skills in the game.

How to Unlock Return of the True Demon - Daisoujou

As this entire quest line is DLC, you will need to purchase the Return of the True Demon DLC from the Nintendo eShop. You will also be unable to battle Daisoujou without first defeating Matador. Once you have, head to the Tennozu Leyline in Shinagawa and go up the climbing blocks nearby. Cross the bridge there, then go around the building until you find the bridge that has a Kaya-no-Hime roaming near it. Head across that one, to an area with some Legion demons, then run up the slanted building to find the beam of energy that will let you fight Daisoujou.

Recommended Party

Daisoujou will be the second fiend you face during the Return of the True Demon DLC, and while he may not be as challenging as Matador, don’t let that fool you into thinking he’s a pushover. He has access to both Mahama and Mamudo, so you will not want to have any demons weak to either of those elements, as there is always that chance an instakill will hit. Thankfully, it seems that he will only use either one after a Magatsuhi charge, with him alternating between the two. So, he would charge the Magatsuhi, do Mamudo one time, then Mahama after a second charge. The only problem with this is that you can’t really prepare, since you can only have one Dampener up at a time, which is why not having a weakness to both Dark and Light is recommended.

In fact, with the recommended party above, you should have everyone resist both elements. Lilim learns Resist Dark at level 34, and if you fuse her with a level 28 Jack Frost, then you can get Resist Light on her, too. Likewise, Cironnup is normally weak to Dark, but Yakshini learns it at level 32, so you could pass it on to him via fusion. This will make a great party to use, since the majority of the other demons in that range have a weakness to either one or the other (ones that are focused on Light or Dark). You shouldn’t have to worry about Nahobino, since you can just toss a Shiki-Ouji Essence on him for the affinities.

The biggest problems with the battle with Daisoujou come from his other two skills. Meditation might seem like a simple drain, but it does both HP and MP, so some characters could be left with little MP to use during the actual fight. You should have a decent supply of Chakra Drops to use on anyone who runs low. The other problematic skill is Preach (probably the most annoying), as it has a chance to inflict three very debilitating ailments on the entire party. Sleep, Confusion and Charm are all ailments you never want on anyone and thankfully, Lilim blocks Charm and resists Sleep. Unfortunately, Shiki-Ouji is weak to Confusion, but his resistances are invaluable, so it’s a chance you will have to take. If you can get Me Patra from Mothman on one of the above demons, then you will be golden.

The best thing about this fight, similar to Matador, is that Daisoujou has a pretty low Vitality, so your attacks will be dealing some good damage to him. He is weak to Fire, so everyone should have some form of a Fire skill on them. Likewise, you don’t want to use Light or Dark, since he blocks both of them. If you kept Miracle Water on Nahobino from the Aogami Type-2 Essence, then that should be enough healing. If not, then you will probably want to toss Media on someone. Likewise, debuffs will also work wonderfully, like they always do, but Cironnup does get Cautious Cheer from leveling up, which gives the whole party a buff to defense, accuracy and evasion.
