Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

Fishing with Felynes

By
Vincent Lau

Select your Palicos…and if you’re lucky you’ll fish up a Plesioth!

At a certain point in the game you will unlock a new feature known as the Casting Machine. This will let you fish without having to do the tedious in-quest fishing minigame, and even better, you get to do it with a bunch of adorable cats!

Simply go to the small sign put up in front of where the Casting Machine is, and for 50 CP a pop, you can throw a net into the ocean.

Naturally, your Palicos aren’t about to let you do it alone, and so you can select five to help you. As you choose, you’ll notice that they have unique fishing skills , ranging from “Fearsome Fisher” to “Arowama Catcher” to many more. You can check out the details of these skills by viewing Palico Info from the Palico Board!

Once you’ve select all five, use the left c-stick to move the net around the ocean. The target landing area will be marked with a small red circle. Follow the schools of fish and try to catch them all at once when they’re grouped together for maximum rewards.

Sometimes, you’ll notice a big fishy monster swimming around. That’s the Plesioth , a major boss monster that showed up in many games such as Freedom Unite and 3 Ultimate.

Plesioth unfortunately is not fightable in this game, but this is where it makes its big cameo! If the net hits Plesioth, you will fish it up and earn materials such as scales and fins, which you can use to make Plesioth weapons and armor!

The Casting Machine is super beneficial to your Palicos too. It gives them small amounts of experience and after enough uses, they might level up!

The fish you earn will be useful as well, for combining to make other items, or to sell for money. Gunners especially will make great use of this tool, as several fish are vital for ammo. Use it whenever you have some CP.
