Diablo IV

Diablo 4 - Cries of Innocence Walkthrough

By
Nathan Garvin

Hatred and guilt are powerful emotions especially when these emotions serve to tie two souls together. The hatred of the wronged, the abandoned, and the aggrieved compels one to seek vengeance, even beyond the grave, and the guilt of having failed to protect the most dependent and vulnerable leads the other to seek an opportunity to atone. This page will provide a walkthrough for the side quest "Cries of Innocence" iconCries of Innocence in Diablo 4.

(1 of 4) To start this quest, you’ll need to find Vendral Trost near a bridge northeast of !Kyovashad’s northeastern gate.

How to Start Cries of Innocence in Diablo 4

To start this side quest, exit via "Kyovashad" iconKyovashad’s eastern gate to reach the "Frigid Expanse" iconFrigid Expanse, then head northeast to a bridge where you’ll find Vendral Trost. Talk to him and he’ll tell you that he’s been tormented by the spirit of his son, Corik, who apparently languished and expired at the "Black Asylum" iconBlack Asylum. If you want to ensure this is truly a matter of the supernatural and not just a guilty conscience, wait around a moment and you’ll see the ghost of Corik appear and beckon his father, who wisely refuses the bait. For now. Best deal with this ghost while the man still has some resolve.

(1 of 2) While not strictly necessary, you may as well go about clearing the dungeon’s early objectives - activating gate winches - as you’ll need to scour the area for Corik’s ghost anyways.

How to Find and Defeat Corik Trost in Diablo 4

Like many side quests, a good deal of Cries of Innocence is intertwined with a nearby dungeon, in this case the [Black Asylum], and while completing the dungeon isn’t a state goal of Cries of Innocence, you’ll have to at least clear some of the dungeon’s objectives to make your way deep enough to reach your quest objectives. In this case you have but a single goal: Slay the tormented spirit of "Corik Trost" iconCorik Trost, but this ghost is fairly well hidden in the Black Asylum.

In the end, we didn’t actually have to complete any of the dungeon’s objectives to find Corik Trost… or rather, to have him find you. We had to pass near his unmarked location before he started speaking, and shortly thereafter, manifested, and we found it easier to just go about clearing the dungeon - and completing its objectives - during our search for Corik Trost. As you explore, keep an eye out for disembodied voices (depending on your settings, this may appear as a text box, but when Corik appears he’ll be marked with a skull on your minimap). In our game, Corik possessed the (Cold Enchanted, Chilling Wind and Hellbound) traits, but his durability ultimately made him a pushover.

Banish Corik Trost’s ghost, after which you’ll be tasked with reporting your deed to Vendral Trost, which you can do just as easily after clearing the Black Asylum - might as well, if you’ve made any significant progress while searching for Corik Trost. Once you’re ready, you’ll find Vendral where you left him, and he’ll give you the standard side quest fare - a Cache, some XP and Gold, before he resolves to go visit Corik one last time.
