Diablo IV

Diablo 4 - Legacy Unmade Walkthrough

By
Nathan Garvin

With a strong enough will, the beast can be tamed, for a while, but even the greatest of heroes will succumb to the twisted machinations of demonic entities given enough time and exposure. The Woodsman may not be a Prime Evil, and the Woodsman’s Axe is no Soulstone, but its lust for carnage has already claimed lives. While you can’t undo your past mistakes, you can at least help see this evil weapon - and the demon that resides within - destroyed. This page provides a walkthrough for the side quest "Legacy Unmade" iconLegacy Unmade in Diablo 4, the third and final quest in "The Woodsman of Nevesk" iconThe Woodsman of Nevesk questline.

(1 of 2) While this quest will technically start immediately following “Chains of Possession”, you’ll need to seek out Parin to get the ball rolling.

How to Start Legacy Unmade in Diablo 4

In something of a rarity, Legacy Unmade will begin immediately after you complete Chains of Possession. After defeating Magdalena, talk to Parin and he’ll express his intentions to destroy the Woodsman’s Axe, but he’ll need your help to do it. When you’re ready to render such aid, you’ll need to travel northeast to find Parin waiting outside of the "Sanctified Study" iconSanctified Study, Parin’s personal refuge which he feels is a safe venue for this upcoming exorcism. Just talk to Parin and follow him into the Sanctified Study.

How to Exorcize The Woodsman

When you’re ready to proceed, pick up The Woodsman’s Axe off a table and dump the accursed weapon in a pot of holy water. After a moment, Parin’s ritual will evoke the desired reaction, and suffice to say The Woodsman is not pleased. First you’ll need to dispatch a bloody version of Magdalena, although this variant is much weaker than the one you encountered during Chains of Possession. After she’s defeated (again), The Woodsman will appear and attack you (again).

The Woodsman, unlike Magdalena, is stronger the second time around, possessing the Terrifying, Vampiric, Cold Enchanted and Summoner traits. It’s a lot of traits, to be sure, and Cold Enchanted and Terrifying will force you to dodge debuffs (frozen orbs and fear-inducing glyphs, respectively) while Vampiric encourages you to keep your distance lest your lifeblood feeds The Woodsman. Summoner will allow The Woodsman to summon more bloody Magdalena clones, which are hardly worth paying attention to.

On paper, all this sounds formidable. The only problem is The Woodsman’s size in no way correlates to his durability - he’s a big, soft, squishy mass that will melt if you apply any pressure to him. He’s not even terribly resistant to debuffs, allowing you to easily incapacitate him, then punish. Inform this demon that you’re made of sterner stuff than Magdalena was, and make it clear that he doesn’t have any more hope of winning a fight against you now than he did last time. Afterwards, interact with The Woodsman’s Axe to destroy it, then talk to Parin to complete the quest and earn the standard reward: a Cache, some XP and Gold.
